What is everyones preference to using these? Do you have one incorporated into a unit in a formation, or do you have a unit with several characters in it.

Further to the above I should point out I mean like the pics in the rule book. One pic is a 5 man squad with a chaplin in it, the other pic is a 5 man squad of all characters. (tried to upload pics but it didnt work!)

I like to have my characters on a base with other models from the unit they are with, the 'all character base' looks silly in my mind.

The base with lots of characters on in was how characters were in the (almost universally hated) intervening Epic 40,000 ruleset so they probably put a photo of one in there somewhere. It's a lot better to have just one character that you have gone for on the base though.

Often there isn't an option to have multiple characters e.g. you can add one character (not multiple) of one of the 4 kind to a SM option. Imperial Guard add a commissar and you can add that to the Supreme Commander in a Regimental HQ, some people prefer it as Fearless can keep the character alive at times, but it's eggs in one basket and others prefer to keep them seperate.

Stands with multiple characters (usually including "characters" without rules like Techmarines or Apothecaries) are often used to represent Supreme Commander stands.

Ah makes sense. I have just been using one character per stand.
