I just visited my local GW store. Whilst talking to the store chap, the conversation turned to warhammer quest etc. I brought up the subject of the specialist stuff going out of stock and he was in total shock: he is a player/collector of BFG.

Anway, to get to the point, he suggested that Warhammer Quest might be redone soon and pointed out this might/could be done for some of the specialist games. The question is, could GW be planning to do this with EA - release it as a boxset (as in the older days) and see how sales go?

Thanks,

Rob

I very much doubt it for EA, its a strong possibility for Blood Bowl though

I spoke to GW customer service and the guy was saying that his impression was that not *everything* was going out of stock, he said he'd put money on some of the epic stuff coming back in a few weeks time.....

have a look at the GW page, if it says 'ships in 24 hours' it's probably available, if it doesn't, it's not....

Am I the only person not bothered by this?

I mean, if dozens of better quality and cheaper companies weren't already in business, if I hadn't seen most of these companies start up from nothing on these very boards and if it were not getting to the point where printing a titan is cheaper than buying one I'd be mildly concerned.

But this? meh. We're sorted :)

We are sorted, but for me it's the visuals, iconography and fluff of their universe that I enjoy. I'd prefer not to use stand-ins as Thunderhawks, for instance, and the same goes to planes, tanks and other models. I am also a completist, so I want to have full collections of armies with all options. That's what bothers me in particular, the fact that I'll be unable to complete stuff. Other than that, I don't really care whether GW goes up to the skies or down in flames.

That said, I will be supporting other companies as 6mm gaming is my favourite genre. Just not now, as I've spent what to me is some pornographic amounts of money on account of this...

^this, totally this^

It is frightening when totalitarian empires crumble, but a necessary thing. I am an Old fart (trademark that!). When I was young, there was no 1:1 between fluff and available minis. Indeed, fluff was not artificially insular and SF and Fantasy companies "borrowed" stuff much more openly than now in this silly IP age. I do not think that this was an obstacle to the birth of the hobby (which is not slang for GW). Rather the opposite: the open ended nature of fluff and dedicated minis available fostered creativity and border crossing. This is something many will have to relearn soon.

Personally, I blame Spartan30 for the end of Specialst Games.

Once GW saw people playing WH40K cheaply with 6mm miniatures, they knew that had to shut that EPIC shite down *now*.

(For those not sure; yes, I'm joking.)
