Hi, I decided that the best way to actually get some E:A done would be to create a proxy counter opponent for my (plastic and metal) Orks. After some games, who knows - someone might actually buy actual minis to play with (fat chance of that!).

So, I made the Steel Legion into counters after lengthy image search:

((EDIT: Images removed as per GW IP policy))

Here's the Ultramarines:

The best yet, the Biel-Tan Eldar:

As it turns out, the counters turned out pretty nicely in my opinion
The infantry are 40mm by 20mm, the same stand size as in Warmaster.

What do you think? Any recommendations?
I thought vehicle facing would be so that the front is the short edge closest to the front hull.
Top-down vehicles would be easier, but a lot harder to find!

None of the images are mine, so I don't claim ownership to any of them - if posting the PDF is a problem, no worries, it can be removed, and I can share it via dropbox or something.
In any case, I made them for my personal use so it's no skin off my nose if they're taken down!

Edit: Updated according to suggestions.

They look nice, though the vehicles are probably too large - particularly the titans, which are generally on a 40mm round (Scout Titans) or a 60mm round (Battle Titans). It might be worthwhile to make a seperate, smaller Commissar counter you can place on top of another unit so your Commissars aren't limited to Command Squads. Also, the model you've placed on the Shadowsword counter is actually a Stormblade.

Good catches.

The tanks are perhaps a little bigger than in 40k / Epic, but then again they are too small there compared to humans.

I was thinking of doing the titans upright like in the old 40k 2nd edition starter (the Dreadnoughts).

Maybe the fliers too.

Thanks! By the way, why are there no Stormblades or Stormswords in the Steel Legion list? Surely they make use of them! Maybe they aren't included because it's an older list and hasn't been updated to include them, but should by all rights have them?

Same goes for some of the stuff Death Korps uses (Macharius? What else?)

Okay, now the Eldar are done. I might take a breather and paint or something, each set takes me basically a day, though the Eldar took more than that even due to their many and varied units.

Comment away!

The list design policy is to save lists from being bloated, and provide for tight strategies.

Nothing stops you from painting/preparing Steel Legion Stromblades and then playing a Minervan list with those Stormblades, which could very well represent the Steel Legion in a different configuration.

So, its more the content of the lists that matter than their names.

I'd also say that nothing stops me from just using one of those in a Steel Legion list, either, outside the "strictly official business" of tournament play perhaps. But this thread isn't about list discussion or what is or is not allowed.

Instead, let's rejoice in the glory of Eldar!

Hey since copyright issues have recently befallen one of our own, it probably behooves us to post these docs with the usual all Copyrights Games Workshop yada yada yada as a cover page on these docs. No reason to tempt fate here :)

Fair point, I really have no idea if these images can be used, but I wouldn't think it's any different from fans reposting stuff from GW on their blogs or even showing off their painted miniatures.
I even got the idea from their own Fanatic magazine article with Necron proxies.

Anyway, if you have any more suggestions what to add beyond what I typed in there, let me know.

Edit: I actually found out on their IP page that they do not like counters. I doubt if they actually have a legal leg to stand on based on that, and it is probably just a request (companies can't set laws yet, thankfully -they'll have to use the time-honoured tradition of bribing / controlling politicians to do that) but seeing as I'm not really interested in finding out or even reading a simple C&D, I've taken the counters down.

If anyone can tell me otherwise, then I can put them up. Otherwise, hopefully anyone who wanted them got them already.

And have no fear, I made these for personal use, not to publish on the net, so my work is not wasted at all, I just can't share it.

I'll keep the thread open for a while to see if there's any more comments, but I'll delete the thread tomorrow.

Think that'd be rather hasty there. I'd probably ask CS what he wants/thinks.

If you are interested, you are welcome to ask whoever this CS is.

Like I said, GW's policy is against counters, but they probably don't have an actual legal leg to stand on where I live, at least.
GW's IP policy is full of "requests" which some people mistake for law. For example, recasting for personal use is perfectly fine legally here at least.

CyberShadow. It's his board so I'd ask him if he cares.
