After a game (which was Air-tastic!) with a gaming buddy, I needed to brush up on my flyer rules since we both had some questions. Again forgetting both of our rules books we just agreed to "roll on it" and carry on. After reading specifically section 4.2.7 Blast Markers, I think I've been playing this rule completely wrong.

Any aircraft formation that suffers any attacks (from ground
flak or being intercepted) receives one Blast marker for
‘coming under fire’. The formation can only receive one
Blast marker during the approach move and another Blast
marker during the disengagement move, no matter how many
different units from however many different formations
attack it.

We didn't agree on this as I was led to believe that if you fly through the flak and/or CAP'd you receive a blast marker for each occurance. But it seems you ONLY get one blast marker even if I flew through Ho Chi Minh City surrounded by MIGs....which is nice to know. I'm I reading this right?

You'd get two, actually. One for flying in, and one for flying out. Plus a huge number for all your squadron mates getting shot down of course!

Yep, one per casualty, and one in each 'engagement' and 'disengagement' manuever.

I.e.

A thunderbold formation makes a ground attack and get's shot by two formations but suffering no hits = 1 blast marker for being flakked in it's engangement move

in the end phase is then disengages and gets shot at again this time suffering a hit = 1 BM for being flakked during disengangement.

The T.bolt player fails the armour save for that hit and a plane goes down = 1bm for a casualty.

Tanks guys! It's kinda tough playing with fighters/bombers when you have 6 blast templates on them, no casualties and it's impossible to get them to pass a activation test. Next time I'll know better.

After you have taken an action test with Aircraft, pass or fail, they lose all blast markers.
