I feel that defensive/turncoat Chaos has already been done recently with Vraks, so what if the Red Corsairs (who are known more for active attacks and raids rather than defensive wars) attack a loyal Imperial planet using millions of Traitor Guard allies (rather like the Blood Pact).
That gives scope for:
- A Red Corsairs list.
- A Chaos followers list, like the L&TD but more clearly 'Chaos Guard' like the Blood Pact, rather than full on L&TD. Able to summon only lesser and greater undivided Daemons like the Red Corsairs, rather than Marked Daemons. Maybe with Stalk Tanks!
- A non-siege Imperial PDF list. Possibily using Malcadors etc as Blacklegion wants them to.
That would give three lists each with a clear and unique style.
There could also be opportunities to broaden the scope of the conflict, and involve more forces, which could include:
- A Witchhunters list? (Fighting in the conflict to turn back the Heretic attack)
- A Daemonhunters list? (Fighting in the conflict to defeat the Daemons that are drawn to the war)
- An Elysian Drop Troops list? (Inducted into Inquisitorial service and brought to the planet by the Witchhunters)
- A loyalist Space Marine list, like the Salamanders?
I'm in favour of this supplement, and may even be able to contribute pictures of painted units, vehicles, etc.
I'd like to echo E&C's ideas here, it seems to be the pattern for the Epic supplements to incorporate 3-4 Army lists, so I think the ones that accompany the Red Corsairs list need careful consideration.
Firstly, do we really
need another Guard variant list? If we're talking about
Traitor Guard here, there may be scope. It fits the background of the Badab war and its fall out that Imperial Guard formations did flee in to the Maelstrom with the Astral Claws/Red Corsairs.
I would suggest that such a force would retain some semblance of military organisation, coupled with a very strong adherance to Chaos worship. So the Blood Pact example is a good lead, though this specific example doesn't fit.
So I would suggest thinking about a new Traitor Guard listm I have some ideas as relates tot he 40k Guard Codex, and will put them down here at a later time, if requested.
Secondly, similar to above, do we
need another Space Marine Variant list? Well, perhaps it's a case that there's a variant out there that could do with a home, and would fit with this.
If there isn't one that springs to mind, how about checking out
Bell of Lost Soul's 'Badab War' book for reference, as it speaks of Space Marine Chapters that garrisson the Maelstrom after the end of the war. There may be inspiration enough for another Marine list, or an existing one that might fit.
Unless... [whispers it]theres a
Xenos list
that we can use..?
Just my thoughts, feel free to shoot them down!
