ok, so we're gearing up to start playing some games in the next week or two but I seem to be missing a couple of important things that are pretty basic, but for some reason I can't find the info.  the good news is, it sounds like there are a bunch of closet Epic fans in my area so it might take off, who knows.

First question - where do I find points for units?  I downloaded and printed out the rules but for some reason I can't seem to locate the points cost for units!

Second - how big are formations?  more importantly how big are things like "mobs" and squads?  I was looking in the beginning player building an army thread pinned at the top and the ork section mentions nobs mobs and so on, but I'm not really sure if that means 1 stand or multiple stands?

Sorry, I know these are really basic and probably right in front of my nose but without that info we're in the dark!

I'll probably have more here in the next few days, I'm going to go back and read the rules again and maybe run a few solo practice games.

You need to download sections 5 and 6 (maybe even four?) of the WHOLE rulebook as found on specialist games. This contains army lists and rules for the grand tournament scenario.

The Epic A rulebook is not well laid out. Section 5 contains the datafaxes defining each unit, but the actual army lists containing points costs and formation sizes etc is in section 6, after the tournament scenario rules. Silly layout.

I'd argue the layout is intentional.

The Epic Core Rules and the unit stats can be used in tournament, friendly, campaign, homegrown missions, etc, etc.

The Tournament army list and pts within can only be used in the Tournament-style preset mission.

So the unit details are found in that armies descriptive section.

Pts cost and lists for use in the Tournament mission are found in the Tournament section.

I´m with Jeridian here. The layout makes sense once you realize that the intent of the rules is scenario play, which is stressed at every corner, and which is also a welcome departure from the mainstream.

That said, yes, I searched for the army lists as well back in the day.
:;):

Oh, and a hearty "Welcome" to E:A!
:agree:

I understand the reasoning, but the fact is that it's irritating for someone who doesn't know the unit stats when writing a list, as they have to flick back and forward through a huge chunk of the book.

Post-its work, as do paperclips, scraps of paper or this new-fangled invention called the "bookmark".

Or you can print off the relevant pages of the rulebook and stick them on the walls!

The layout is irritating when first encountered but I suspect most like myself soon find it simple to use. Especially once they memorize nearly all the stats, lists and upgrades etc. it becomes second nature.  :)

thanks for the heads up guys!  I figured out I didn't print out some of the sections to save paper.  Found them!
