Just wondering if it mentions anywhere how many soldiers are represented in one base of a formation?

Actually it does say it in the rules. I believe for infantry you can use 3 to 7 for each stand.

Most people feel it's one to one konate, it was never specifically stated though in the rules. You can assume 1 to 1 as well or assume it represents a squad, it's up to you. Although most lists are designed with 1 to 1 in mind.

Yep ... 1 to 1 ... WYSIWYG ... a base should/can/could/would have 3-7 ... 3-5 men = a Fire Team, 8-13 = a Squad ...   8v)

I have always felt that it is one to one too, so an old Space Marine style infantry base of five models, for example, would count as five models.

Space marines are the clearest evidence of 1-1 ratio. With a base representing 5 models, the formation sizes match codex specifications I believe.

I think you're right about that.

I was referring to Space Marine infantry as in all types of infantry stands that were used in the Space Marine rules, but it doesn't really matter
