Looking at the two (as a newb) and am attempting to understand the nuances of each.

What are some of the intricacies a newbie might miss concerning the two lists?

Biel-Tan has many more Aspect Warriors available for use, has an "improved" Avatar, and has a special Engine of Vaul no other Eldar list has.

Ulthwé has a slightly higher Strategy Rating, makes much heavier use of Guardian Warhosts, and has a "special" Guardian Warhost that's got a 1+ initiative.

Those are the differences in broad strokes... for intricacies... well, there are a wide variety of builds that both lists can produce, so that's tough to dicuss abstractly.

Head on over to the Eldar Section for more detailed discussions!   :agree:

Sounds like Ulthwe got the short end of the stick!  :vD

No way!

My Ulthwé are well feared hereabouts and won our ´07 epic-battles.de community tournament, not losing a single game and devastating several armies. The higher SR caused some grumbling while I prefer Guardians over Aspects anyway. I spearheaded with a Warlock and 3x Windriders, and it worked rather well.

On the 4-Aspect formation, I agree that 175 is okay. I´ll try and field some Banshees next time, with the upped CC I thought it had been statistically proven that they are sufficiently superior against their preferred targets to be worth taking over Scorpions?
