Short Version
Read here if you don't want to go through 10 pages of thread. ?I am accepting advanced payments via Paypal in the amount of $25 per copy plus shipping. ?Paypal to email moscovian@hotmail.com and the subject should state Epic Raiders Prepay. ?Remember to include shipping costs. ?Also remember any profits will go to the American Cancer Society. ?See below for shipping cost breakdown.

As of June 5th, fifty-nine orders have been placed.

Details
No news is good news as one forum member put it. ?GW Legal has said nothing but Andy linking to the supplement makes me feel more comfortable. ?An email from the folks at Bell of Lost Souls was somewhat illuminating. ?They have not printed anything on the scale that this would be, but their concerns were all met IMO in that there does not appear to be any abuse of GW IP. ?I am prepared to make all financial transactions available to not only the forum here but to GW as well. ?That includes posted pics of receipts so that nobody feels like anything underhanded is going on. ?While most of you trust me I want to put everyone at ease and rather than place somebody in the predicament of asking for it, I am volunteering it first.

Here is the breakdown:

Books Cost per book
Run of 25-249: $17.31 each or $1731 for 100
Start Up Fee: $397
Color Book Fee: $50

There was also an error on the cover (matte vs glossy) that cost $45.00 to fix. ?100 copies of the book will run $2208 or $22.08 each, plus shipping to get me the books in hand (which I can only assume will be less than $100 if they ship it by FedEx Ground or other carrier). ?This is higher than I originally expected ($15.xx per copy) but this is precisely why I built in padding into the price. ?

I will then need to buy the materials to ship them, plus any other miscellaneous costs that come up (like the Paypal fees I'll get hit with and such). ?The lower I keep those costs down the more money goes to the the American Cancer Society.

Now if there were 250 copies requested it would drop the base price considerably (down to about $16.25 per book) but I don't honestly think there will be that kind of interest. ?I would float it myself but I don't have four thousand dollars to toss around. ?We could wait around for more people to take an interest but I think we?d be waiting for a long while.

Shipping out to you folk within the US will be pretty reasonable: between $5 (Massachusetts) an $8 (Washington) for Priority or $2.58 for Media Mail (nation wide). ?Costs will be considerably higher oversees: $15.25 for 1st Class to the UK or $11.95 for a flat rate envelope (warning, there is no room for extra padding and these are cardboard envelopes).

Consider having me ship multiple copies to a single person if you are part of a club who can then distribute them and reimburse for the costs. ?I don't know if that will work out for everyone but it is worth asking around. ?Folks overseas feel free to discuss here before prepaying since it might save everyone some pounds.

So all in all the costs are higher than I initially anticipated but that still isn?t bad considering Swordwind was $25. ?Raiders is over 50 pages longer too. ?There are two businesses online that had slightly cheaper printing prices but the job IMO would not have been as good. ?

It should be noted that the fuzzy maps in the scenario section have been cleaned up and the recently discovered typos have been fixed. ?While I don?t see a need to make a new version of Raiders for these small things I do see it as important to clean up for the printed version.

This start up fee will cover printing books for the next five years, so when the next supplement is done (yes, I can feel one coming down the pipeline ? ask Chroma) this cost will already be paid.

The American Cancer Society Donations
As mentioned before all proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. ?For the first 100 books the donations will seem quite small (less than $2.00 per book) but once 100 books is met we can expect a much higher margin on each book since the upfront costs will be taken care of. ?The next run of 100 should come out to around $4 per book donated which is rather substantial.

For this reason it is important that -if you like the book- show it to your friends and at your clubs. ?Not only can we have something fun to play with but we can make a difference at the same time.

Thanks for your interest.

-William

So what would you like the amount sent to be since shipping is still up in the air?

That's good to hear. Any hints about future supplements?

Well, in the US, Media Mail rates will be consistent (see above). ?If you want it shipped Priority Mail go to the USPS site and calculate the cost from zip code 18052 to your zip code. ?Any overages will be considered a donation to our non-profit. ?If you are under by a little bit we should be okay but it will cut into those donations. ?So don't be under. :)

Dave, for you and Tim just pay the $25 since I will be seeing you in June anyway.  I should have the books by then.  And if not I can collect the shipping costs at that time.

Nice one Moscovian. I'm glad you're making this happen. My prepay should have hit your paypal account - let me know if it doesn't cover the cost of postage to the UK.

What about breaking up the order by Americas and Europe - would it be cheaper overall to get two batches printed, one there and one here? It would surely work out cheaper than $40 to print and ship? (Then again maybe not, I'm a bit out in 1st world prices currently!)

I can contact Mills and see if they have a printing subsidiary there.  Most likely no though.  The problem is on a book like this you need to set up an account, verify the proof, etc.  The whole idea is to lock you into working with them (high upfront costs, low printing costs) and it is certainly appealing given the pricing gets better as you go.

But I agree that shipping books individually to the Europe will be pricey - thus I encourage working with each other to get them in bulk and hand them out.  The good thing is the US Dollar is so cheap now that you'll be getting a bargain regardless.

Ok, Postage calculations to the UK :-

Weight of the book
My E:A rulebook (192 pages) weighs 716 grams
My Swordwind (80 pages) weighs 325 grams

For 135 pages this gives a weight somewhere between 500 grams to 550 grams for the Raider Supplement. Erring on the side of caution, lets say 500 grams or 1/2 Kilo (or in old english just under 1lb per book).

USPS postage
According to the USPS calculator, the cheapest postage is approximately $12 per book in an envelope (read Jiffy bag)

Multiple books shipped in a box - 10 books for approximately $50 (or $5 each).

UK postage
According to the UK Post office calculator, it will cost a further ?2.57 postage and packing on top of the ?2.50 USPS costs (above)?

===========================
Now, it just so happens that a reasonable number of people will be meeting in London on the 28th/29th June, including Tiny-Tim, Rug and myself. Now if the printing can be done by then - - - - - - -
(well it is a very long shot, but I thought I would ask ok :) )

Conclusion :- unless we can all arrange to meet at a competition, it will probably be as cheap to mail each person direct, and a whole lot simpler.

Mosc -
Did you check whether the printer can also ship the books out? I would have thought that us "foreigners" could add the $12 or so to the $25 printing costs; and if the shipping is done by the printer, I would have thought you might even get a slight reduction in postage costs.

Not sure if this has been addressed, but what's the style of binding?

Thanks for the breakdown, Ginger. ?I actually believe that the books can be done and in my hands within three weeks if the proof looks good and therefore it is possible to get it to you. ?I took a chance and started the process today of sending them the pdf files and opening the account. ?If GW shuts this down I take a $400 bath, but if they ignore us or give us a green light we're that much further ahead. ? I will check with Mills Press though to see if they offer discounted shipping. ?To be honest it never crossed my mind.

Out of curiosity, what is it to ship within the UK?

EDIT: The binding will be just that - binding.  No ring binding on this baby unless you do it yourself.  It should be just like Swordwind and Armageddon.  The proof will arrive sometime next week and I'll take some photos and post a description.
