There is a flipside too, all the people playing the other games will suddenly be exposed to EPIC and we get more converts.

And Primarch, I reckon you would love the warmaster articles ;). It is a class game system.

Cybershadow - BFG and EPIC will both be in there, so there will be a cost saving for you, no need for two seperate mags.

As for the popularity of the game systems, 40k is much more popular than fantasy - but they get equal exposure, end of the day... I need colour, we aren't going to get much White Dwarf support so we need a quality advertising vehicle to get converts, the system needs new blood to buy minis, otherwise it will stagnate and die.

Hi!

I echo CS's thoughts. A combined magazine will reflect whatever is most popular or making then more money, as it should, but it also means if epic isn't AS popular or manking money you'll see less and less stuff for it. I just see a lot of "last minute" changes and dubious calls on GW/Fanatics part that contrast with the "promises" of support when Epic A kicked off. I think, unfortunately, that Jervis has finally been confronted by the "bean counters" and given guidelines as to what is possible and what is not as to resource allocation for epic.

Thus we fall in to the well known vicious cycle of "you get back what you put into a project".

Yes, I have always liked warmaster, I have the books and magazines, but with no players in sight I doubt I'll ever get into it.

I agree that I will need to only get one mag instead of the two that I (would usually) get. But, I am not sure that all people will jump on with this. I think that it would make more sense to have two magazines - one for Gothic, Inquisitor, Necromunda and Epic, and one for Warmaster, Mordheim and Blood Bowl.

Let me put it this way. WD is now going up to ?4 in the UK. For WD for a year that works out at ?48 (although there are annual subscription discounts, I dont see that Specialist Games can offer these). My year of Gothic costs me a quarter of that. So, even though I save by having two mages in one, I pay twice the price (assuming that the mag is equivalent in price and size to WD).

We do need more people to be exposed to Epic and to play it, and I am glad that this idea is being thought about and considered, but I dont feel that it is necessarily the positive step for Epic that it could be for something like Blood Bowl.

In the end, I fear that a move such as this will actually reduce the number of players and Epic will be seen as the poor cousin of the other Specialist Games range. If you edit the 'general' mag and you know that Epic has a lot less players and readers, and you have a lot less articles for Epic, would you keep the various sections equal in content and page numbers? If you did, GW would hand you your P45.

I simply dont understand the logic of having the Journal, splintering off the mags from that, ending the original and then recombining the various mags into a single publication.

Still, this rumour came up about a year ago, and nothing came of it then. I dont want sound negative, but I just dont think that this is a good idea for Epic (or even for Gothic really).

Hi!

I can see the benefit for GW though. Less publications mean less cost to them, which without outside advertisement makes the GW magazines a burden for them financially.

Add to this epic's poor sales performance and no guarantee of future success, I can see why they wish to combine them.

But, as I have said countless time, GW is unrealistic in trying to get great sales without great support. One goes with the other.

Perception is key for the potential consumer. Will I play a game that lacks the support of 40k or fantasy? Perhaps. Will it generate long term epic players? Unlikely.

Epic has gone from core game to forgotten game. A reputation that is hard to shake. Taking away its own magazine doesn't give it better stature in my view.

Erm, why are these 4+ armour?

I am trying to make an Imperial Guard army so that I can have a game against another guy (who will use Imperial Guard) and noticed the hellhounds outstanding armour value.  Howcome, despite its 40K rules (glancing count as penetrating), does it get a better save than a Chimera?

Also, how come its Inferno cannon has the same range as a Multilaser?  30cm?  Its a template weapon in 40K.

What's going on?

Hi Shadow Hunter, I think the Hellhound has lost its glancing=penetrating in 40K....and the flame template can be 'shot' some distance away; don't have the IG codex here to confirm, though.

I forgot IG had a new codex out.  I haven't seen it yet.  Still, even without that rule, it shouldn't be any tougher than a Chimera.

Actually it should be tougher than the chimera. In the new IG codex not only did the hellhound lose the auto-glance rule, its side armour was increase to 12 :D.

Also in 40K it now has a 24" range (still uses flamer template, you can place the template anywhere within 24", including placing it sideways O_o). It has to roll to hit using its BS of 3. If you hit all models touched by template are auto hit, if you roll a miss it causes partial hits (each model under the template gets hit on a 4+). And of course the points value in WH40K went up :)

I take it these 40K alterations came about because no-one used the hellhounds.

Okay, it helps to explain it to me now.

Now just to get the army glued together for him, and primed.  Note:- I'm not painting them though, I already have enough to do.  :O

Yeah, alot of stuff was get used in the previous guard list.

Nearly all the IG armies I saw with the old codex consisted of:

3 heavy support vehicles out of: basilisks\leman russ\leman russ demolisher
a ton of infantry and heavy weapon squads
maybe a couple of chimeras and a sentinal squadron

Everything else was unused: ratlings, storm troopers, hardend veterans, ogryns, hellhounds, roughriders.

All of those units have been tweaked a fair bit. The hellhound was the only one that changed enough to affect its Epic coutner part. Most of the other changes were adjust ments of things like poitns cost, squad size, weapon options etc. The new codex is alot better IMO (though like the last few books from GW, it has an annoying amount of errors :( )

Back on to the topic of hellhounds, I like the updated hellhound alot (both in 40K and E:A). Its now a very useful tank, and IMO will become the most common "light tank" for IG. Sort of the IG equivelant of predators.

Well that's good news for me.  For some reason I have loads of Hellhounds, and precious little else for IG.

I'm having to use some hellhounds as Chimeras so  I can make an armoured co. and I still have plenty left for support.

I use my hellhounds , but in epic 40k their downlfall is their slower speed vs reusses and chimeras.  It might not seem like much, but reducing your armored detachment 5cm is a problem to me.

Does anyone know offhand what the speed of the hellhound is in Epic A?
