Yes please! Then I don't need to bother with my clumsy conversion anymore, hehe

With Apocalypse and the Forgeworld Heresy range, they are quite busy transferring the Epic concept into 28mm, almost vacuuming it for inspiration. I doubt they will ever return to 6mm.

Agreed. There is a very nice comment from 2005 about SG, which I read years ago and remebered now

yup, he summed it up for me pretty well, and we all knew this was a matter of time. As I've said before, I'd be bothered if there weren't better quality cheaper miniatures and games already out there.

"Playing miniature games was cheap and easy, and that was quickly perceived as a problem by Games Workshop."

Well written analysis well ahead of many. However, I particularly like the end statements - this is a very good time to get hooked in gaming. While the original text only refers to the web as second hand through ebay, we now have a growing list of talented people designing tons of miniatures and creating and maintaining good games. And this time they are not producing copies!

I've yet to see a single decent alternative for Chaos or Eldar, so I can't go along with that I'm afraid. If you know of something that I don't, then by all means fill me in.

There are going to be gaps for the near future, but free (read: black) markets abhor a vacuum or something to that effect.

I don't see how anyone is going to be able to re-create Eldar and Chaos models without infringing GW's IP to be honest. I think that e-bay is going to be the only way for new players to get into either of these armies.

Couldn't one just get a bunch of regular old plastic marines and make them chaosy?

Yes. I was referring to when the piles of current marines eventually become scarce.

I don't think this will happen for more than a decade. There were so many plastic marines released in all the big and small box sets. I for one is drowning in them.

To talk about something else: I have placed several orders with GW and FW. Haven't received one order from FW yet.
But I also sent 2 unanswered emails (8 and 3 days ago) to FW and they didn't get back to me. I think I sent 4 emails to GW also the first were more than 8 days ago about various stuff and not one reply.

I got a box of Space Marine Razorbacks but two has a missing turret and that is frustrating. Now I wonder if I have to call them. I just find calling to be such a hazzle.

Damn they suck at customer service...

Yeah, sorry about that Jimmy, but it was just too good an offer not to take you up on! ;)

In the original version of Space Marine I had to make do with Blood Angels v Chaos chapter of Marines whose name escapes me. All you had were tactical troops (no assault or devastator models & command stands were illustrated by the pole on the back of the stand), Land Raiders and Rhinos (plus Titans) so colour schemes were the only way of differenciating between two forces. Red v Black basically.

Sorry to everyone for whom that history lesson was irrelevant because you were actually there as well!

More heresy from me I'm afraid... Couldn't you find troops that have some similarity to Eldar poses and just stick some modelling clay/green stuff/milliput on the heads to give them those distinctive helmets? Once they were painted up, at 6mm scale would it be really obvious? *Puts hands over ears in anticipation of the community screaming "YES!" at me*

YES! 6mm infantry isn't so difficult, you're bound to be able to find something that will work.
For Eldar vehicles, my mate was already using the Dark Realm Kraytonian Grav tank range. They work well.
For Chaos stick a few skull turret from Exodus Wars on some vehicles, and you're well on your way. Lots of Titan types available too.

Eldar Titans are more difficult. Though a first look at the Battletech front page and I see this has just been released:

...which looks quite similar in style to the 1st edition Eldar Revenants. Could be modified to improve further but I reckon it is good enough to use as is. Looks more Eldar like than the Epic40k edition revenants some people are still using!! :D

I'm investigating whether gw was right to drop 6mm, or whether there's still a community out there that'll show interest.
