First off,
Hi, this my first post, and my first version of epic. ?Nice to meet you folks.
I've been searching the net for awhile, epic strategies are a bit thin on the ground. Shall we get one going, as a thinly disguised attempt to help a newbie ?
Great Gargants: Which is better, the full set of soopergunz or the Lifta-droppa?
Gargant: Is Super Zzapgun worth it given the limited weapon options? Is it better overall than a Supa-Stompa?
Super Stompa: Value for money or a big, fragile, target?
Stompa: Better than an imperial tank? Choppa or big gun?
Mega Gargant: Better than Imperator? (well yes, obviously, look at the gundeck!)

Great Gargant: Personally I prefer the lifta dropper. Its basically a 2-in-1 mega choppa and zzap gun .
Gargant: I would take either the zoopa gun or the mega choppa, depending on how I was planning on using it.
In terms of firepower the zzap gun option alone doesn't make the gargant worth the cost compared to a supa stompa. What does make the gargant worth it is double the amount of damage capacity and sheilds along with 3+ CC and 3+ FF values.
The damage capacity is the on that makes the most difference. Not only does it take twice as many hits to kill, but twice as many BMs to suppress\break it, and it gets twice as many attacks in assaults, and can engage twice as many units in base to base, barge twice as many etc.
Supa stompas are good value, but easily picked of by TK weapons (since warengines can be targetted seperately). Still a stompa mob with 3-6 stompas and a supa stompa weilds some nasty firepower and assault abilities.
Mega gargant: Don't know, haven't looked at the collectors models much.
Stompas: Very good shooting abilites, tough, quite good in CC too, but very slow (can garrison though)

In my Epic 40k group, the guy with the orks has a Mega Gargant, and every game that it has been used in it either 1). Doesnt come in close, and therefore is very little factor in the game, except as a firepower magnet. 2) Comes in close and winds up exploding spectacularly, usually taking other orky stuff with it.
We havent used Epic A: yet, and we dont have an Imperator, so I cannot comment on them.
my 2cents,

Given that I mentioned Paris H and began the slide into obscurity, I feel obliged to bring this thread back OT.
Has anyone compared the price of FW Tau to GW EA figs? Is it possible that the Tau have gone from the most expensive Army to the cheapest in fell swoop? With the price of resin vehicles it might be so!
I feel compelled to act For the Greater Good!

The Tau are still the most expensive by a LONG way, but the gap has closed somewhat. Average price per plastic infantry troop at the current price per box works to about 7p. (36 stands per box ?= 180 troops for 1200p) Tau infantry is still around 8 times that, working out to about 50p each depending on which type you're buying!

Sure they are still more $ on a resin to plastic figure scale, but what about for a whole army? Surely the resin to metal vehicle ration brings tem back on par?

No chance mate.
If you take it as a 30p difference PER FIGURE on the infantry (and thats being kind on most of the range), you're totting up an extra ?1.50 per stand.
The Tau vehicles are one of the ranges from FW that are on a Parr with the E:A releases. ?6 or ?7 for 3 vehicles. They're not as cheap as the FW IG armour (?5 for 3)
You're certainly not going to recoup your losses from the infantry - at most you're saving ?0.50 per armour piece & the tau wont get far without pathfinders, crisis or broadside suits, let alone Kroot allies for assaulting.

Ok...Ok...
Maybe I'm really trying to justify my next round of purchases while seeming to be outraged at the new price hikes....

There's a slight difference. I still have to WORK to get money, she doesn't.
I wonder though if my collection is worth 4 years of anyones salary, perhpas I should find out.
