The weapons look 'Orky' to me, the chassis very Eldar and the hooves are definately chaotic.
It looks like a hodge podge of different designs with just loads of Imperial signs drawn on it.
Almost as if it was a captured titan with scavenged weapons.

Hmm.. interesting- I don't hate it, but there are some icky looking features- the head is good, far better than the horrible old "cartoon dog" style, but the mouth gun.. yeah, it sucks!! I quite like the large eagle on the carapace, and the parchment on the legs is a nice touch. The 'hooves' are not so good, but the riveting all over it gives that sturdy 'Imperial' look.
..however,I think I'll reserve my final judgement for when I see the production model..

Quote (TuffSkull @ 07 2003 Oct.,08:53) | | I must admit that, while I dont like this much, it does seem very similar to the first Warhounds.
Continuing the trend of mini reviews before we have actually seen it...
I like: The should mounts The Plasma weapon (yes, I actually like it) The neck mount
I dont like: The head gun - yes, it is definately chocking on it The hooves - reminds me of a 40K War Walker The purity seals - one or two are fine, but this is too much The carapace eagle - if I get one of these, this will probably be filed off The... umm... rear - they have really captured the 'hound' aspect, and what is that rear facing tabbard?
I dont much like the mini, and no matter how these things are supposed to be agile, I just cant see them sprinting like that.

Hi!
I think designs of late are seeing a little too much influence of BT style or "robotech" style, the newer warlord reminds me of that (which I think is the worst of the warlords), this new warhound just doesn't make me want to buy it. I much prefer the FW one over this one.
The reaver has fortunately escaped any real bad remake, the FW are pretty good, I hope when they decide to redo it, it will look better than the projected warhound.

It seems that the universal opinion, both here and on the playtest boards is:
Hooves suck. Purity seals are over the top. The gun mouth looks like it's sticking it's tongue out or choking.
Return to a more 'original' style is good.
Weapon design opinions are mixed. Imperial eagle opinions are mixed.
========
I agree with almost all of that, with a few qualifiers.
I think the gun-mouth could be okay, but the model is green with a white gun making the contrast extreme. I think that is exaggerating the look.
I like the Eagle. As far as halved or quartered paint jobs, I don't see it being a problem, especially quartered. I would just split the eagle down the middle and paint the halves different colors.

I'm with T/S, C/S & Neal ! Purity Seals are just Wrong in Epic scale (and 40K for that matter) !!! I don't like the big Imp. Eagle either. I hated it on the Epic Thunderhawks, but didn't file it off. More trouble then it is worth ! I'll forward this thread to Jervis, not that it will do any good. But it's nice to let them know what the shrinking Epic community thinks. To reinforce what Neal said about the buzz on the playtest board.

Hi!
That's a good idea, might as well let Jervis know beforehand and see if it can be changed.

I sent him a summary right after I posted above. He did reply, although some of it made no sense until just now when I found out what else he had seen.
The mouth gun is designed to be cut off if not wanted. Of course, the crowd around here would have no problem deciding that on their own. I think it's great that they intentionally put it into the design.
He noted that purity seals were originally created for titans. The 40K scale designers took the concept and ran with it, not the other way around. (I knew that and didn't understand why he had mentioned it until I read the above comment by Legion4.) I don't know if he missed the idea that it was just the sheer number that most people objected to.
He didn't comment on the hooves. I will hope that means it will be addressed.
He did note that his instruction to the sculptor was to make it "over the top, impractical looking, very Gothic, and and covered in lots of irrelevant surface detail." I think it succeeds in that respect.

Hi!
At least he's aware now, perhaps he can get the points mentioned accross and the model can be "fine tuned" a bit.

There is universal disapproval of the hooved feet, and almost universal about the purity seals.
Hopefully, that will have some weight.
Outside of that, though, there is enough dissent that I feel certain it will be left to the sculptor.

Can't help but thinking that it's a really smart idea for Fanatic to set up pics of the unfinished models. This way they can get a really good idea of what's hot and what's not without setting anything into production. We get models we like and Fanatic saves money redesigning unpopular miniatures before they are made expensive molds of. Very nice.
I can only agree with the general connsensus about the new warhound as I allready noted on the Playtesters forum.
Cheers

Who wants to bet we don't see a redesigned model, just a more complete one. I think the sneak peek is meant to whet people appetites, not be a public consultation for the model. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong.
