...The moulds could be worn out- after so many thousand uses, anything will start to degrade due to wear and tear. However, I ould have thought that it wouldn't be all that difficult to just cast up the individual plastic parts of an old Warlord in metal would it?

Quote (netepic @ 11 2003 Nov.,08:13) | I beg to differ - he told the EPICentre that a Beetleback was being seriously considered, as a different pattern for the Warlord. Mars pattern perhaps? |
Perhaps he meant getting a new model sculpted in the same style?
I'm sure I read a post within within the last week or 2 where Jervis said the molds for the plastic warlord had been lost and they couldn't make a metal version of it.
Edit: I found the post, its the 1st post by Jervis on this page: http://forums.specialist-games.com/epic40k....hpage=3

It's entirely possible that their old molds used a different, cheaper system than their current injection mold system and they're not compatible. Based on the level of detail coming out of their plastic molds these days compared to the ca1991 beetlebacks, I think it's likely. I would also guess that "lost" probably means "melted down and used for something else" if that is the case.
It should, in theory, be fairly easy to make a mold for metal using the old plastic bitz. The problem I see is that the old model was pretty sparse on the gothic detailing and if they decided to do it, it would be very close to an entirely new sculpt in order to come up to current model standards.
Of course, my days of polymer chemistry and chemE classes are long gone, so take that into account when weighing my guesses.

I would guess the old moulds would be worn out. At a guess, how many Plastic Warlords do you think were made? It's gotta be close to 500,000, perhaps even more.
But a Warlord in the style of the new Warhound....it just makes me sick....
Cheers

A Beetle-Warlord anno 2003 (uh, well more likely 2004) remains the stuff of my dreams! I wouldn't mind if the model was closer to the original pre-mk1 metal Warlord on the pics from AT either! It does seem logical that in time we will see a new Mars Pattern Warlord to replace the Battletech Thing. However I still think that we will have to wait until after a new Reaver has been produced (not that I don't like the current one; -It's just that it is an older model than the Warlord mk3 and thus more likely to be replaced first). ...of course all of this is assuming that Epic will continue to be supported by GW for that long...
Cheers!

Hi!
What confuses me to death is, if they constantly complain and point out the lack of resources, why not just crank out the same old epic stuff that was available? Old molds they say? I hardly think epic could compete or be anywhere near the amount of use a 40k or fantasy mold would. They have been saying the molds are old for a couple of years now, yet they still seem to be able to crank out more via GWUS. Perhaps they have newer molds?
I'll never buy their excuses for not bringing out the full line by pumping out the old molds. I bet they could do it if they wanted too.
The main thing is "IF" they wanted too.

The problem Primarch is that the Warhammer 40K range has "evolved" from its Rouge Trader and 2nd Edition past, thus many of the older Epic models that fitted into the older styles no longer fit in, eg Rhino, plastic Falcon etc.
So they see it fit to make models that fit in with the current range, so newbies know what they are from looking at the 28mm range.
Cheers
Chris

Hi!
I understand your point Chris, but instead of doing it "all at one go" why not make the old line fully available and renew it slow as time and resources permit?
Also trying to appeal to newbies may be their goal, but I have yet to see success on their part to this goal.
Time will tell.

Yeah. The old and especialy the old-but-never-released epic is a great lure for stupid old farts like me. I have spent hundreds of $$ to buy the stuff already and have made an order for the dropship already.
What I would give for beetleback Warlords .

Hi!
I think GW has never really sat down to think who the TRUE target market for epic is. I dont think the usual "bright and shiny" marketing they use for their other games works since epic seems to be dominated by "old farts' like us.
As Mojarn mentions, I think GW could make a killing by re-releasing old models like the CI or beetleback titans for limited runs. The are many ways I think they could make a profit with epic and yet they dont do any of them.
I agree with Legion4 about GWUS, why are they pumping out the epic by the truckload? Mojarn isn't the only one buying over priced archive pieces, I have too. They still continue to offer them which means they are making money.
Whats GWUK's excuse?
I think each game that GW produces is its own universe as far as its marketing goes, trying to make it "40k-lite" will NEVER work.
Some things never change....

FRoA #41 - Profit is it's own reward. G/W UK should be making Truckloads of Epic of all eras not more excuses about E:A ... Period !!!
