Welcome to the forums Steders... If you so desire, I see no reason why you shouldn't class them as battlefortresses or whatever if they are the models you have most of in your collections anyway..

Could you use the count as rule to use the old fortress models as the new ones in tournaments?

Welcome to the forums Steders!
I noticed this just a couple of days ago too... actually I had already planned to bulk my 10 gibletgrindas and skullhammas out anyway, just to make them look more like their stats suggest.
I'm thinking of sticking a hull from a new plastic battlewagon on the back, a bit like a trailer... and maybe adding some 'balconies'. ?I'll have to see how it goes, I'll post pictures when I'm done.
If anyone has any good ideas on how to make gibs and skulls look more battlefortressy (I want battlefortresses not gunfortresses), I'd like to hear them.

While the GG and SH are smaller than the battlefortresses, I think they are way too big for a gunwagon and I use mine as fortresses. They are certainly bulky enough to easily fit as long as you hit it in the 5 minute warmup.
MarkConz: I like the balcony idea. The balcony from a gargant's shoulders could probably be cut to add extra square footage, and the shoulder observation turrets would look good, too. For that matter, you can take any of the house/hut style ork turrets and remove the gun to provide extra orky-looking cargo space.
I have a model kit for railroaders that has corrugated metal decking which would make for good platforms. Or railroad I-beams and such sould be used to frame out some stuff.
I intend to add cargo nets to some of mine by cutting pieces of door/window screen. I think a big cargo net running from the top pipe on a skullhamma down to the body would look good and add some transport capacity (for grots, anyway).
Adding something like the front half of the plastic stompa model to the rear of the model would add some significant cargo-looking bulk.
An easy way to bulk up a skullhamma would be to add a real dethrolla to the front instead of the wimpy longhorn steer horns it has on the front.
One thing I did on the new fortresses that made them look even a bit bigger was to mount the treads outside the edge of the body, almost like a giant trike. A similar thing would work with the GG and SH if you simply mounted larger treads outside the existing ones.
Hope that gives some ideas to vamp off of.

Thanks for the welcome everyone I have recently aquired 5 baneblades, 3 shadowswords and another old multiturreted imperial tank (cant remember the name) on ebay and i will be using these as gun fortresses. They were all incomplete in some way anyway so they are going to be customised. I will use my old fortresses as fortresses and damn the rules lawyers! (Actually the Boys I game with wont care as long as they get to blow them up)

Thanks for the great ideas Neal! You've reminded me that there's a shop nearby with a great selection of plastic modelling girders, pipes, braces etc, I'll have to have a look.

Quote (primarch @ 04 2004 Feb.,21:03) | Hi!
Donwgrading Skullhammas and Gibletgrindas?! Outrageous.
I dont care what GW says, they REMAIN super heavy vehicles.
Which means net epic will now add a "super battlefortress to represent the new model.....

Well I have thought they looked a bit small for ages, they are not that much bigger than some of the other ork tanks... ?
For instance I recently acquired some new ork tanks (actually it was yesterday)... they have a massive gun over two wheels at the front, and then a large crew compartment with 4 windows each side and a chimney at the back. ?This whole piece is metal, and it fits onto one of the (new) plastic battlewagon chasis. ?The whole thing is slightly longer than a skullhammer, and as tall but not as wide. ?Does anyone know what these are? ?They are before Epic40k was released, but obviously after the release of the new plastic battlewagon. ?I have never seen them before, perhaps they are a newer version of the Braincrusha?! I figure if anyone knows it will be the Netepic people

The description does seem to fit the later edition of Braincrusha so without seeing the model that would be my guess.

Yes. The Ork stuff is so much fun to customize and play with. I think Krooza has us all beaten out for cool conversions though.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.
