I use Assults and Devs in mine. Sometimes I drop the devs and shoot with them and the Hawk, then assult with the Assult marines and Hawk in the next turn. Just drop the Devs where you want them, and in cover. Ideally they'll be joined by support.
Admitably, I use this mostly against Eldar, where just shooting is often enough to brake a formation. The Assults can be used to initiate the assult next turn where other formations have gotten into firefight range, but none where close enough to actually engage.

A sneak preview of the next part of the Tacticus i'm doing for Incoming!
Thunderhawk Although Thunderhawks are named gunship?s, they are so much more than that. They make excellent transports, being able to blast the enemy with there rockets and heavy bolters before dropping off there troops. This suppresses the enemy before your assault marines come pouring out, speaking of which you can fit two detachments in a Thunderhawk, complete with a Chaplain. That will turn a flank alone in a small game, but for maximum efficiency make sure you have a Rhino/razorback deployed tactical detachment in the area before the drop off. Combined arms win the day ? just imagine your opponents face when his flank which was previously only facing a tactical detachment suddenly gets reinforced by assault marines. What was previously just an annoyance becomes a tide turner. (As an alternative, use Devestators, although I am loath to commit devastators to a firefight, they might be better, but it is a waste of points to let them get that close to the enemy.) After they have dropped off there cargo, treat them as heavily armoured fighter/bombers and use them to continue suppressing the enemy and carry out attacks in support of your ground forces.
