Epic fans are small minority of G/W gamers. But we have carved out an enclave for ourselves, as you well know. We will continue to play and collect Epic using whatever version of the rules we see fit or "proxy" minis that we like. I've said this a long time ago, E-A is Epic's "last round-up." ?
We probably won't see another version come out, 3-4 years from now. That being said, G/W (& F/W) can produce a lot of great models, rules/supplements and even terrain and keep it going for many years, if they want to. ?
Even new races like the Necrons, Tau & Kroot and possibly the Demurig could be released in the future. And after all that is accomplished, we will still play it and keep it alive within our own small cells scattered all over the planet... ?

Epic players, the terrorists of gaming, spite us and beware!
I just wish they ditched the "rules" effort and just crank out miniatures for the game. They've seen it can be sold this way and thus they bypass the whole "versions" thing.
I do agree Epic A is the "last round up", but if it doesn't sell.. ..well, I think you'll have to wait a "little more" tha 3-4 years. When Epic A is released in 2004 it will be 7 YEARS since the last release (epic 40k), so I think they are "subtlely" telling you want to expect if this version does not sell well.

Still very much a work in progress... ? ?
I still review the E-A downloads weekly and see if there is anything we like, as I mentioned.
Plus, we have not had time to playtest anything... ?
A lot of excuses and no results...

Hi!
It doesn't need to be a "refined" finished product. I'd be more than happy to see an outline of the basic points.

Fair enough, but like I said we use SM1 Templates, scenario generation system, and activation. The combat results system and leadership/morale is still very much in question.
When we played last we used the E-40K chart for combat and a conglomeration of morale rules. Still very much under construction... ?
The list of rules that I mentioned on the first post on this subject is still valid...

Legion, I forgot to bring up how much I liked what Epic40k tried to do with assaults. Assaults in Epic40k could get annoying and take time to resolve, but the notion that you could still win the fight (cause more casualties) and still be force to retreat was brilliant. You couldn't do that in the previous editions. I think Morale in AT/SM is useless, and only comes into play when the captain gets killed that I can remember. I liked the panic rules though.
I didn't like how every race had a generic level of morale where all they had to do was beat the number of blast markers. It does assume that everyone are badasses, but I liked SM2/TL where you could really judge how much of a beating a detachment could take and how it would mostly likely react. Which do I think is more realistic? Probably Epic40k, but SM2/TL was a little more fun.
It is little things like this and randomly rolling leadership in BFG really brings shows the genius in some of the things Jervis and Andy come up with, but at the same time I still think we come up with great ideas ourselves.

Hi!
Actually the best idea for morale, which I used for Heresy, is DSII's morale system.
It reflects morale and training, so can have troops with high motivation and morale, but low training (as in irregular fanatic units) or really well trained troops with low morale or motivation (disaffected troops).
It also has degrading morale as you go from a "fresh" combat state to a routed one.
Its more detailed though, but as for C-in-C and morale effects in battle (which actual effect on combat performance in game) its difficult to make one better.

The "Firefight" concept in both E40K and E-A is a true paradigm shift, and generally, we like it.
Morale, Brake Point, Leadership, etc., are big sticking points.
SM-1 handled it poorly, and we modified it.
SM-2 was no better and E-40K and E-A made it too simple, and of little use. ?
DSII may be the better system with some modifications... ?

Hi!
There are some variants of DSII that use dice instead of the "chit system", they seemed to be pretty good and made the game flow better.

Gandalf: We all know you two despise each other. It seems that regardless of which one of you says something, the other is likely to over-react.
In this case, I agree PG went overboard.
