Section 6.0 has the army lists posted as of 23Oct03.  Outside of some typos, the only thing in flux is the ork list.

T-bolts are 2 for 150.

BTW, there are 2 support formations allowed per company now.

Many thanks - I've downloaded the pages, but with all this painting havent had a chance to do any reading!
(speaking of which, I havent had a second spare tonight to lift a brush. I will post an update to the diary if I can tomorrow morning before work, otherwise you might have to wait I'm afraid!)

Sorry to cause even more confusion, but I found the errata file I had saved, which states:

Space Marine & Imperial Guard Army Lists

Increase the number of Thunderbolts in a Thunderbolt formation from two to three.

So they should be three unless Jervis decieded to change it back for the final version of the rules. Perhaps we should ask him ????

Cheers

Chris

Chris, it was changed back.  The newer files are post-errata (even though I think their post dates are messed up).  There wasn't even a 6.0 in the vault before.

The T-bolts recieved a pretty substantial upgrade on weaponry because JJ didn't think the stat lines reflected the miniatures.

Hi!

As the impact of me having a gaming store and thus opponents readily available settle upon me. I proceeded to confirm several suspicious regarding Epic A's distribution in the US.

I know that it has been said that this game is available through GW stores and online MO, but I have heard this before with other fanatic games and yet have seen their products in indepedent (non-GW) stores. After chatting with the store owner and calling some GW sales people, as I suspected, its relatively easy for an independent store to "acquire" the new Epic A for sale.

I dont know how reliable the distribution or stock availability will be in the long run, but it does seem possible for you local store in the US to get it. They must be perseverant and learn to "nag" about it to get it. In other words dont take "no" as answer.

To all the epic A fans in the US, use this knowledge aggressively and get your store to try to carry it. This with your enthusiasm and playing the game in-store will perhaps give epic the boost it needs.

I'm definitely in a "crusading mood" lately.

Glad to hear it! Does this mean you're prepping youself to make positive coments about the game & its future rather than being the arch-heretic-sceptical-Peter R. we've all come to expect?  :p

Seriously, I wish you all the best in your crusade mate.

I myself am off to my local club tonight, armed with my shiny new copy of the rulebook to flash about & see if I can entice any further players to join in a _proper scale_ wargame (we've already got a few, but some still seem to have missed me jumping up and down and waving epic figures in their faces every other week..... :D).

I'm in a fix here.

On the one hand, I have a GW store handy and the staff there has been exceptional in pretty much all ways.

On the other hand, I would still prefer to support the local independent game shop, doubly so since the 2 next largest shops in a 40 mile radius have both closed in the last 6 months.  But the owner is at least 50% curmudgeon and has refused to carry any miniature stuff outside core GW, Cav, and Reaper.  I know for a fact, people have requested he carry BFG, Confrontation, and Warmachine.

I have absolutely no desire to even bring up Epic with him when I know for a fact that I can go to the GW shop, talk about epic with at least 2 excited staff members, pick up blisters in situ as it were, and order any bits I want (no minimum) and have them within a week.

Also, while there are at least a handful of guys at the indy store that have Epic stuff in quantity, they felt burned by the E40K release and haven't yet played a game of EA with me.

I would love to go proseletyze, but it's darn annoying to do so.

Who knows, after close to three years of only "solo-gaming", I'll pretty much try anything in order to revive epic. IF I want to see those Necrons released, I'd figure I better help it out.... :;):

Neal, thats pretty pickle of a situation you have there. I'm pretty sure by my past experience in talking to retailer who have "been burnt" on a product (not only epic, its the same for other games too), its going to be uphill if not impossible. Its shame I know, but sometimes unavoidable.

If the local GW store is the one supporting epic, I guess they'd be the ones you should use to "galvinize" the epic player base.

Another thing would be is to make an "epic club" that buys the minis from the GW store but gets together somewhere more neutral. Its harder to achieve, but easier to maintain.

One observation I would point out Neal that I didn't mention in the original post is that I'm not sure if your LGS could EVEN get epic to sell do to the close proximity of a GW store. They may refuse it to him so as not to compete with their own store.

Where I live since there is only one store and no GW ones, they can get away with asking (and getting) stuf perhaps denied to others. I have noticed this in the US too, but I have no way of knowing what would happen in your particular scenario since a GW store is involved (I have only seen availability of fanatic type stuff in stores not competing with close by GW stores).

So if you are intent in getting the LGS involved be sure he CAN get epic to sell, otherwise its a moot point and he wont be interested in hosting games where only the GW would profit.

Let me know how it goes, this is valuable information useful to epic gamers as well as retailers.

Well, I'll try to do my little bit to making EA work. I've already let the guys at my local GW store (York, UK) know that I am returning to buying stuff (paints etc) after a 10 odd year break because of EA. I'll also try and get down to the store to play some games of EA if there is anyone to play against (and I have enough energy).

Hi!

You would think GW store managers would be easy to convince to get epic in store, but there are some narrow minded ones just like in independent stores.

Hope your proves easy to handle.  :;):

I can't imagine that they would do that, as it would be a bad business move.

The expense to their local store to carry epic would be minimal.  At most it's a small rack, a bit of rearranging, and a handful of product codes to stock.  Because of the minimal local expense, the GW shop wouldn't need to guarantee a high volume to make it worth while.

OTOH, the corporate office and distribution centers would bear the brunt of the epic startup costs.  From their persepective, more outlets means more distribution, means more market share and more profits.

I know you've heard first-hand stories of that kind of marketing poo from GW, but after talking with 4 store owners (including one who was a pretty good friend) in the last 10 years or so, none of them have ever told me anything like the horror stories you do.  And the GW track record since they moved into town has been stellar.  They really promote their game lines regardless of the venue, even running tournaments in independent stores.  They would obviously like people to buy it in the GW store, but they are functioning as a general marketing tool.

Anyway, I've recently been touching up som 40K figs to take to the local 40K night, so I'll use that to try to break into the anti-epic crowd and turn them around.

Hi!

Its good to know the GW store and the independent store have learned to co-exsist in the same area.

Then by all means try to get the independent store owner to carry it. Tell him to be forceful about it and not to take "no" for an answer.

All indication seem to point that it can be gotten if the store owner "goes through the motions".

Check out the S/G site - Pic of the Day !   Epic Razorbacks, one with Las-cannon turret and one with H/Bolters !   Cool !  Wonder if we'll see the Multi-melta turret ?  And I wonder if F/W will do their own Epic "Doppelgangers" ?   Who knows !?   :;):
