Hi!

Did Jervis really believe, that E40K would win over everyone playing SM1 or SM2 ?

Yes he did, all the GW staffers did and they were mighty ticked off when it became apparent that reality didn't agree with them. Just read Robin Dews pathetic rant in WD (217?)

And on the other hand, if you like SM2, what difference does it make if E40K is released ?

The difference is that SM wasn't supported anymore in favor of the new system. Granted I play netepic and this point means little to me, but if you liked SM, and didn't have a dedicated group to play it you found yourself without opponents.

Plus if they did re-released SM2, who says it would have the following it had previously. If G/W wants to keep Epic alive, they must keep trying something different.  Many gamers who played SM2 or E40K are probably long out of it.

No question there. That's also the reason no future epic version will get off the ground, no player base. Whatever game they make will have to depend solely on getting enough new blood to reach "critical mass". Since Fanatic games are ill equipped to truely reach a wide audience, I doubt enough interest amongst "newbies" will be generated. The current player base is too small to support financially any released version.

The 3 year wait on necrons or Tau just confirms to me that you'll pretty much not ever see it, sorta like chaos after Epic 40k's release. To be frank, anything that cannot be produced in under a year from Epic A's release has a good chance of being "lost in the warp", unless some amazing sales happen.

Well as usual Primarch and I are generally in agreement ... ?:;): ?I was playing "Devil's Advocate" in my post. But it does seem ridicules IMO that anyone asked why Jervis does not re-release SM2 ?! :l ?Coming from a business standpoint that's more of a risk than E-A. And Jimbo's point about G/W being run by "bean counters" is well taken. As they said in the old "Godfather" movies, "...it's Business..." I run a business and I don't stock what won't sell. ?:;): That being said, my rant about "artist driven", and it appears F/W is rampant with this malaise, is that too often models are released that really are not needed as opposed to new models for "forgotten armies". ?I've said this before, how many IG tanks need to be released between G/W & F/W !?! ???? ?And I agree with Cybershadow (and Jervis), that IMO, E40K was a better game than SM2. ?But they both had some good ideas, and we use concepts from both. ?However, we play neither... as is. ?Well a lot of good discussion here and good points all around ! Oh, and cool pic of the new Epic Armored Sentinel ! ?It's on my list !  And Primarch is again correct, if it's 3 years before the Tau and Necron are to come about, then they will be lost in the Warp, much to my dismay ...  :{

Oh btw, you might want to stock up on Forgeworld stuff before Epic:A is released - I imagine there prices will rise to reflect the Epic:A price hike by GW. At the moment it is still 3 for ?5, instead of 3-4 for ?7.

And Baneblades are ?6 each instead of ?8.

Hi!

I really hope FW doesn't increase the prices, but I think netepic will be right on this one....

...shame.

I know he lives on an Island in the middle of the South Pacific, but move on ! ? (no offense Tas!)

And none taken...  I after all dont associate you with persons you dont like just because they live on your continent...

And its not in the middle of SOUTHPAC- it IS SOUTHPAC's dominate feature!

>He's a rabid SM2 player and vehemently opposes NetEpic or E40K

Well, at least he is part of the Epic brotherhood.  SM2 works for him, and thats great.  He is doing what works for him and his mates.

For a blister of 3-4 models are 7 pounds about 11.50 dollars depending on exchange rate. Thats up from the previous prices of around 9 dollars, the boxed sets are fortunately a better buy because you can get 10 tanks at around 25 dollars US. Not bad.

The price hike is there, but it may not be crippling, blisters at 10 dollars or less would have been much better. But at least they dont cost 15 bucks like the baneblade did in epic 40k times.

Holy Gak!

That is a serious hike....thats Aus$20 per blister, Aus$50 for 10 tanks.

At Aus$5 per tank, plus the extra shipping to MO them from UK/US, thats pricing themselves out of the market over here BIG time.

Maybe GW Oz knew that when they made up thier "no EA" in Oz" policy... :{

Hi!

You know Tas, you may have a point there. Usually many think in terms of "dollars", but the many other countries where GW is sold may have to adopt stricter policies towards what they sell since they may feel its too expensive for products of dubious sales potential.

I wonder if GW canada will sell it? Anyone know?

Sorry Tas, I realize Down Under is the "Big Show" in the South Pacific. :D ?And I didn't mean to sound the way I did about Squigger. I try to be magnanimous and always say, do what works for you. My point was that, since Jervis does does support SM2 (yeah, like that matters!), and the rules seem to be open to a lot of question, the next evolution was E40K and IMO a better game. But as I say again, always play what works for you ... but I can be a jerk too ! :o ?

Hi!

I remember this "squigger" guy, although its been ages since I posted to that list.

Is he really "against netepic" ?

Rather odd for someone to like SM and not netepic, I haven't met too many people with that opinion.

That's the way I remember it. Whenever NetEpic was mentioned, he made it clear he only wanted the original G/W stuff.  But no matter, we'll never have to game with him ...  :;):

Hi!

Hmmm...I seem to remember clearer now who you are talking about. Sometimes he wasn't too polite about it.

Oh well, to each his own.

In case anyone is still wondering what the future holds for the Epic line, point your browser on this thread:

http://www.specialist-games.com/epic/fo ... IC_ID=5596

Swordwind is the last printed book for E:A. Future supplements are online only.

No new books + few or no new minis = very dead game line. So long, E:A.

God bless NetEpic.....

Rumours of its demise have been greatly exaggerated.

I have also seen the upcoming 'plans' for the game, and I must admit that I am extremely frustrated by it all. GW seems to be cutting the diversity in their business. This can only be bad. I am sure that many people get into the hobby because it is a whole new and complete environment. The question has already been raised as to how they can make the accountants notice by giving away rules and publications for free and cutting back drastically the minis produced, if they couldnt do it when people were actually paying for them. The cut back of SG, along with the axing of both Warhammer Monthly (ok) and Inferno (oh no!) are two steps which cannot help even their main games range.

That being said, I dont think that EA will really die. I do think that there is already a good support network for it (almost like Jervis didnt fully trust the support level  :D ). My only real concern is that SG will open up the previously cancelled Epic lines. I want the whole pachage opened up, and at least all of the archive troops such as the Chaos plastic sprues.

I dont think that that game will realy die, but I also dont believe that 'official' support will count for anything or help the game much. It will live through its dedicated player.
