Hi!
Did Jervis really believe, that E40K would win over everyone playing SM1 or SM2 ?
|
Yes he did, all the GW staffers did and they were mighty ticked off when it became apparent that reality didn't agree with them. Just read Robin Dews pathetic rant in WD (217?)
And on the other hand, if you like SM2, what difference does it make if E40K is released ?
|
The difference is that SM wasn't supported anymore in favor of the new system. Granted I play netepic and this point means little to me, but if you liked SM, and didn't have a dedicated group to play it you found yourself without opponents.
Plus if they did re-released SM2, who says it would have the following it had previously. If G/W wants to keep Epic alive, they must keep trying something different. Many gamers who played SM2 or E40K are probably long out of it.
No question there. That's also the reason no future epic version will get off the ground, no player base. Whatever game they make will have to depend solely on getting enough new blood to reach "critical mass". Since Fanatic games are ill equipped to truely reach a wide audience, I doubt enough interest amongst "newbies" will be generated. The current player base is too small to support financially any released version.
The 3 year wait on necrons or Tau just confirms to me that you'll pretty much not ever see it, sorta like chaos after Epic 40k's release. To be frank, anything that cannot be produced in under a year from Epic A's release has a good chance of being "lost in the warp", unless some amazing sales happen.

Well as usual Primarch and I are generally in agreement ... ? ?I was playing "Devil's Advocate" in my post. But it does seem ridicules IMO that anyone asked why Jervis does not re-release SM2 ?! ?Coming from a business standpoint that's more of a risk than E-A. And Jimbo's point about G/W being run by "bean counters" is well taken. As they said in the old "Godfather" movies, "...it's Business..." I run a business and I don't stock what won't sell. ? That being said, my rant about "artist driven", and it appears F/W is rampant with this malaise, is that too often models are released that really are not needed as opposed to new models for "forgotten armies". ?I've said this before, how many IG tanks need to be released between G/W & F/W !?! ? ?And I agree with Cybershadow (and Jervis), that IMO, E40K was a better game than SM2. ?But they both had some good ideas, and we use concepts from both. ?However, we play neither... as is. ?Well a lot of good discussion here and good points all around ! Oh, and cool pic of the new Epic Armored Sentinel ! ?It's on my list ! And Primarch is again correct, if it's 3 years before the Tau and Necron are to come about, then they will be lost in the Warp, much to my dismay ...
