Seconded. War Engine rules, particularly for hit allocation with units like Warhound Titans are a bit of a nightmare.

don't listen to them, they may be a little bit confusing, but once you get the hang of it, it's fine

I think hit allocation over warhound/revenant packs is actually quite uncommon and not that difficult really unless you're using deathstrikes or shadowsword companies...... plus who uses warhound packs anyway??

edit: I guess coming up against SHT companies counts.... but still, it all works out as nobody fires deathstrikes at them anyway, the old adage is 'never fire deathstrikes at a baneblade company, unless you want a single very dead baneblade'

I agree - its worth the effort. As a relatively new EA player (and old school 90s before that) i feel your pain ! :D

It's important to remember its very different to any other GW game (at least any i have played.) Took me 8-10 games before i really started to see what it was getting at. After the first 3 or i just hated it ! Don't get me wrong - some of the mechanics are still long winded, clunky and un-elegant. Some things seem counter intuitive. But comes together as a very clever whole.

One thing i would say is the training scenarios at a bit pants imho. EA is all about synergy of units. Mirrored forces is good for learning but maybe try using a variety of forces - 1 inf, one tank, one artillery, one assault, one scout or similar. It was realizing that coordinating units is the heart of EA - making them all act to their potential without having their weaknesses exploited - and is why people love it so much.

Also worth remembering : unlike other GW where marines are the "baseline" force, ie the troops everything else is measured against - in EA marines act more like the fluff. They are tough, excel all round and have a special rule for every occasion. I know i remember feeling like i was learning two sets of rules - basic EA and the SM rules. May be worth going with IG (even if proxying) as they are much more "normal." The obvious strengths and weaknesses of IG make the rules more obvious, whereas the all round strengths of marines can hide the concepts.

Finaly, read some battle reports to see how others play.

Will do Blip! This is very helpful, and best of all I don't need to proxy Imperial Guard!

I think my pal is keen to play through the training missions but hopefully once that's done we'll be able to push on with other forces!

Cheers!

Yeah once you get into WE involvement start to use the IG as they're easier to synergize with than Marines at first

Areas to focus on:
-WE in assaults
-INF stands taking cover with WEs
-Shooting at WEs, especially in combined formations (e.g. the classic Baneblade company + Ogryns)

I'm afraid my E:A adventures have ground to a halt. We were still struggling after another 2 games today and still having a lot of trouble with the intracacies of the system. :{[]

I mistakenly then tested out some rules I had written for NetEpic in a third game. Sadly (for all E:A fans at least), my friend loved it and immediately did not wish to continue with the E:A system. :-\

Thank you all for the encouragement shown here for me to give it a go, and a special thanks to Jimmy for his incredible patience! He was a friend waaay beyond what was reasonable. Sorry to all - and Jimmy in particular - that it didn't work out for me. I am glad I gave it a go!

If any E:A players want to try NetEpic and want to ask any questions, I'd be delighted to help out as much as Jimmy did with me!
