Yep that is correct. EPIC UK are working with GW to make this an annual event; were EPIC UK can display more and more good stuff out there from EPIC players.
Excellent! Great stuff

And there's a problem; whilst we can display some conversion work we cannot display totally scratch built armies so no Dark Eldar or Necron  :sigh:
Are you sure? Doesn't it depend whether the models are actually other GW models cunningly converted? And which are converted in such a way so as to match their W40k counterparts?

If an entire army was scratch built or any component was from another company then, yeah, for sure it would be rejected - and entirely understandably. Themed armies re-using bits from other GW armies with lots of green stuff and scratch-building do get displayed at Warhammer World though (and are allowed and used at their tournaments) - for example they had an Adeptus Mechanicus army there one time. So long as it was a strictly GW component-only Necron or Dark Eldar army (the ones in the Raiders book kept to this restriction for instance) it should be able to be displayed I would think no? Obviously only if it was a high enough standard to be among the best few armies selected to go on display overall.

I'll admit to having a particular interest here - I'm working up my own heavily converted Eldar Exodite army using unreleased models and models from other epic and GW game systems. It's sadly nowhere near done, so I'm having to borrow an army to come to my first ever epic tournament (Britcon), but hopefully by next year it could be. For tournament purposes it'll involve a heck of a lot of imaginative 'counts as', but can count as a particularly limited and not quite so competitive Craftworld Eldar list (I'll give opponents a printed A4 page of photos of what = what normal craftworld unit to make it clear). I'm more of a good painter/converter than a good game winning player but it'd be great to know if I do them well enough they might be in with a chance to be displayed there, and a little sad to think they'd be ruled out from the start.

I know for tournies you typically have a legal % requirement for GW parts etc and I had thought "pure" scratchbuilds were ok as well provided you were using nothing more than basic art material.

Given the piles of bits now available, I'd bet some fairly impressive, yet "legal", conversions could be pulled off.  If armies & other items have to reflect legal tournie lists, then that obviously effects Dark Melfs & 'Crons.  However, if GW simply requires the conversions to be a certain % of GW bits, then lets figure that out. :))

Some of the models featured in last year's EpiComp would be a nice attention grabber to feature as well.

Several parts of Kevs inquisition themed army are scratch built, and are in the display, so I can't see there would be a problem with DE at least as they are similar in that they are either converted eldar or scratch builds.

It would be a laugh to see a scratch built necron force - all those epic sized chaos androids sitting in there :)

(Though I can imagine the barrage of requests of where can I buy the Necrons leading to irritation!)

This is great news - good to see GW actively putting Epic in front of people.  Looong way from the support the community needs/deserves, but a welcome step nonetheless!

And a massive congratulations to the guys who had their stuff put on display - some excellent Epic painters out there who have earned their time under the spotlights.

:D

Cheers
Reedar

When the lady asked EPIC UK 'would we like to do a display?' (of which our answer was 'YES!'). She said that she didn't mind some scratch-built / converted models but not a whole army of them.

I asked her about Kevin's army (as he has Sisters of Battle scratch built figures in it) and she said it was okay as it had FW Warhounds, FW Grey Knights, GW Rhinos etc. The whole army wasn't scratch-built.

All I'm going on is what a GW employee (who's job it is to select exhibitions) told me. But you lot know GW's policies ... it will be different next week  :)

The Real Chris just pointed me in the direction of this display: fantastic stuff.  :))

Which store is showing the display? Did someone say Nottingham? If so, is there more than one GW store in Nottingham? Anyone have the address?

Its at Warhammer World at the Lenton HQ
http://warhammerworld.typepad.com/warha ... s/display/

They wrote
Thousands more miniatures in Citadel Miniatures Hall

Ok, because they are Epic Armageddon miniatures and armies, they are only at 6mm scale but the quality and quantity makes it a stunning display. The group Epic UK have selected five armies from their members to show different styles of painting and even have scratch built miniatures on display - which at less than a centimeter tall is not easy. For Specialist fans or people who are just interested in well painted miniatures it's well worth checking out.

According to the woman in charge of the displays the Epic display has been one of the more popular that they have had - especially with the studio+eavy metal staff and with parents explaining it to their kids.

Kids - Why are they so small?
Studio Staff - God we used to play this all the time!
Heavy Metal staff - we are already half blind, best ensure this game is never re-released!
