I use 40k Roundbases with Thumbtacks as Flyingbases, it dies look very good in my oppinion and it´s very easy to get & build them!

I would use the old Falcons as Falcons if you want to buy some new Serpents so or so.

It will be less confusing to have all Models that are the same Unit to look the same as mixing old and new and even old Falcons an new Serpents both as Serpents.

and uhm.. yes i just registerd myselfe so i guess i´m new here too ;)

That bases and thumbtacks suggestion is fantastic. Thank you for it. I'll probably end up using square fantasy bases though, since the only 40k bases I have are on old metal necron warrior models that are on their way to ebay at some point.

I don't really know what I'm going to use the old falcons for yet. Obviously I have a nice round number to use them as wave serpents for guardians, but it will depend on what my final lists look like. Ideally I'd like to use them as falcons, since that's what they are, but I also much prefer the new falcon models to the current wave serpents.

I'm still likely to buy two of the warhost boxes, so I still don't really know what I'm going to do with 52 full stands of guardians (and only four stands of farseers/warlocks)...

I keep sitting down to write a list, but I can't get too far because what I field depends a lot on what ebay wants to sell me, currently...

Also, thanks for the chaosorc suggestion, Vaaish. I didn't even know that existed...

edit: Some of my numbers were off.

If all these new guardians you have are the new larger ones I might pay a bit to take them off your hands. I currently have loads of the Space Marine teenie ones that I would prefer not to use as they are already badly painted by myself when I was 14 (a long time ago). Also in need of Eldar Aspect Warriors and Exarchs if you're feeling generous.

Feel free to mix new and old falcons as, well, falcons, in the same army. Just make sure that you don't mix types between formations. Or use some for an Alaitoc or Ulthwe list as opposed to just Bieltan. Or use new falcon models as transports for important units to mark them out. Feel free to make armies for different craftworlds with formations painted differently.

Different models can help clarify matters, I believe there is a bit at the back of the Swordwind pack that says this is perfectly allowed, as different wraithbone singers on different craftworlds may have different asthetic visions when creating their items. They all perform the same function, just look different.

P.S. I like the epic wave-serpents, a great improvement on the old ones IMO.

I was actually meaning to ask about the size difference. the guardians I have right now are the old, early nineties space marine models as well. I'm curious as to how well they mesh with the current models that are, what, a third larger? I may be able to send some of the current guardians your way. I'll have to take a look at what I have to work with when I finally get everything together for my first 2000 or 3000 points.

Also, fluffwise, I'm thinking about doing sort of a craftworldless eldar army in exile. Perhaps sort of an army guarding the diaspora or something. In that vein, it would make sense for such an army to have loads of outdated equipment, since they'd likely be scrounging for whatever they can put on the field.

I think I may do an ulthwe list since I'm so guardian-heavy. That list is pretty well-respected, right? I don't know much about straying from the official lists.

alternatively you can just save those old guardians and use them as Tau since you will be buying two of the new sets anyway. :)

The old guardians are perfectly legal, and can be used as they are. I have used them in the past. My problem is that mine are horrendously painted, and badly flocked on the old square bases, and I think I would like to start over. I think it is purely a matter of preferance.

Apparently the Ulthwe list is pretty sweet (strategy rating 5, and seer councils) and black guardian stats look nice. Give them all a go before you paint any up. Even when you do, actual paint-jobs don't matter provided your opponent knows what is happening. I can't imagine a lot of people have a. the money, or b. the time, to paint a separate army for all major craftworlds.

In the future, if I have the models, I would like a black guardian detachment or two to use with my Bieltan painted army, to play Ulthwe. My main army is Bieltan because I love the Void Spinners (I have 2, sweet), but it doesn't really matter how things are painted as long as their role and formation in that battle is clear.

Fluff-wise, I don't know about a separate force defending the diaspora. Eldar travel large distances using the webway, and Exodite worlds (the majority of the diaspora) all have webgates. Craftworlds can then offer help as required from any point in the galaxy, actual physical proximity is not required. Therefore a separate force, although it may exist on the Bieltan or Ulthwe craftworlds in particular, would not have to scrounge for any equipment. If their involvement were required it would certainly be guided by farseers and be supported by the craftworld.

Actually thinking about it more, you could say they are the remainder of a destroyed craftworld (either by nids or chaos) searching to become Exodites themselves. Thatway whey could intentionally avoid assistance from the more established craftworlds and exodite worlds. Otherwise it may be hard to square, because the Eldar that survived the fall were either Exodites, or on Craftworlds, or the Dark Eldar (boo, hiss). And even craftworlds like Lugganath, who were rescued from the eye of terror (by Morgan Ra dontcha know, the only 40K model worth buying IMO) are supported by the other craftworlds, albeit treated with suspicion.

Wow. Kudos on the fluff knowledge.

I don't know. I like my armies to be my own, and therefore place them in the fluff universe, but not necessarily as something specific in the fluff. My IG when i played 40k with mommy and daddy's money years ago, for instance, was renegade. I'd rather not be associated with a craftworld, even if i use their lists. Maybe that's just me being a bit selfish and unreasonable, though. Haha. I do like the idea of painting units with different schemes to represent different armies, though.

I have not heard of this one.

Please explain. What in the Tau would you use them as?

Easy answer, create your own craftworld, or even an Eldar Pirates force. Before starting any new army lists talk to Chroma, he is the Eldar army champ and can give you pointers to get started. It may be easier to restrict a list rather than create a new one. Check the Eldar specific board. Pirates may be the way to go.

fire warriors. the heads might need a bit of filing but for the most part they work alright.

Or they could be used as Dark Eldar Warriors, but there's a lot of other things you'd need to convert to have an army of them. Alternatively just ebay or trade your excess ones.

Just scored 6 weapon platforms, four war walkers, a new warhost box, and a storm serpent. That should definitely be enough to get me going at 2k.

You should try to get your hands on the court of the young king /avatar, it´s for free so every eldar player should take it ;)

Looking forward hearing about your first games!
