The other possibility I'd that its an issue with the alpha mapping in a tga file'as sections with an alpha map appear transparent. Try jpging the _pants file.

Also tell me the filenames.

So seeing this thread and the activity has motivated me to register an account after several months playing epic over Vassal with some friends. I love the idea of a 3-D board for Epic, especially if eventually people can manage to get even rudimentary models into it to add their own terrain and make units have models; even if they're very basic and blocky that can help a LOT for dealing with line of sight issues. So a few things.

1) Count me in as wanting a copy to try this out! Would love to get a game in with some other Epic players!

2) For people having trouble getting your ports to work: You can use hamachi to get past port forwarding. You can get it here https://secure.logmein.com/products/ham ... nload.aspx by downloading the free Unmanaged version and setting up a room. Get yourself and a friend with a copy of Hamachi into the room you set up, and then one person hoists a game. The other person connects, and uses the host's Hamachi-created IP. Should bypass problems with routers not set to forwarded.

3) What is the potential for adding a definite "front" to a model and then allow movement to be done similar to Vassal, ie press Up arrow or Shift+Up to move 1 or 5 cm forwards respectively, if some people are worried about getting the absolute most out of their moves. Would also, from what little I understand, let you continue to allow for selecting and moving multiple dudes at once, since it wouldn't involve giving units a set move as part of the unit file.

4) Is it a possibility to select and label/post notes on models? Useful for denoting which model has a character upgrade like Commissar or SupCom/Commander if you're zoomed out and can't make out model detail at a glance. Also for denoting which group of transports are for which squad since all models are the same color/bases are same colored. And of course for denoting how many shields/DC war engines have left. Note that this would not be renaming them, simply adding a little set of black letters on a white background that would appear over the model.

5) Adding a tool or something to let you make a certain area of the map a different color to denote the exact edges/area of area terrain like forests; no more arguing "Is this model in or out of cover?" etc would be really useful, I think. Would definitely push for something like that, if it's not too hard to code in.

Thanks for making this program Zombo, I very much hope to be able to try it out sometime! It looks amazing so far and has so much potential!

+1 for hamachi - I haven't tried it yet but it sound perfect for avoiding the hassle of port forwarding and hopefully getting a reasonably high ping! And welcome aboard! Where are you based?

I'm in New York, USA myself. I lack funds for getting into Epic in RL and there's no real scene around for it either. So I mainly play over vassal. Am about to start a game with a friend right now as it so happens if anyone wants to watch. Tau vs Dark Eldar. Also glad to help vis a vis Hamachi; my ports are open now but man was it a pain trying to get battletech's Megamek to work and host before I discovered Hamachi, and it sounded like it might help here too!

Edit: Game's end of turn 2 and my Tau are horribly mangled. Was fun, I forgot to check if anyone watched but if you did hope you enjoyed.

Okay, so, I'm itching for a game of Epic sometime over the next couple of days, or even today if possible! If anyone would like to play, gimme a PM or post here and we can discuss times. I should be able to host.

Got a game in last night with Jagged. Have some screenshots.

Deployment, marine termis teleporting in and getting some blast (flame=1 blast marker)

Termis start off strong, attacking the Regimental HQ

http://i.imgur.com/QUTu3EJ.jpg
Results: Termies win and kill the SupCom, but through terrible armor saves lose 3 stands of termis in return. Screw what the rules say, this is a victory for the Guard!

http://i.imgur.com/CG4ohMT.jpg
Next termis assaulted the right mech formation and did a win. Good for them, no losses!

Missing some more stuff which is weird... Stupid MS Paint not saving the pics. Anyway, Vultures sustain on the termies with their RAWKET PAWDs, and even though I forget to fire their multilasers and twin Heavy Bolters they still kill two termies and inflict enough blast to break the right termi formation. Russes meanwhile sustain on the enemy SupCom Termi formation, killing one. Should have Advanced to get them into twin HB range.

Enemy peppers my broken mech formations with his Thunderbolts (not shown: enemy twin Tbolt formations and two Thunderhawks. Once my AA was gone, no point in placing the models as they'd be able to disengage easily), destroying one but the other hangs in there. Turn ends with the Thunderhawks picking up the termis remaining and zooming offboard. Everything rallies sans the right termis, which get a 2 and then the SupCom init reroll, unused that turn until this point, gets a 1 and they stay broken.

Next turn, more harrying fire from the Thunderbolts but the remaining morale-restored mech formation just will not die, helps that Jagged can't roll a 4 to hit to save his life, and they marshal, removing their blast, and the stormtroopers try to move to take the enemy Blitz but fail their retained init activation, gaining a blast and choosing to sit still and regroup to remove said blast, leaving them effectively as they were!

http://i.imgur.com/QxyBOu6.jpg
Enemy Thunderhawk carrying two formations of termis, four stands total, blows into my tanks and opens up, killing three in the first round of Engagement. We manage to tie for the round, with him losing a stand of termis, and I get a kill in the second round as well as damaging the Thunderhawk and while he does get another Leman Russ kill his casualty was the Chappy so he no longer has Inspiring, I outnumber him, advantage is +2 to me, get a 4 for a 6 total and he manages to roll snakeeyes, wiping the formation in assault and leaving a battered but still very active Russ Formation against two Thunderbolt formations and a Thunderhawk with broken Termis.

Lemans Marshal successfully and remove 3 blast and move onto the blitz objective in my DZ, and then it's end phase. When the remaining termies fail to rally again, we call it, as he has really nothing that can contest the objectives and win without absurd dice shenanigans, so Guard win it 3:0, They Shall Not Pass, Break Their Spirit, and Defend the flag (which incidentally I'm noticing now is listed as Defend To Flag on page 99 of the most recent PDF)!

This was my first ever really semi-competitive, actually put a decent amount of effort into caring about objectives and win conditions game, so I'm very pleased with myself for getting a win. Jagged was an absolute gentleman and scholar the entire game, and I think it was quite enjoyable for the both of us. Unless he's secretly seething with hatred over it in which case I commend him for his acting skills, top notch!

Tabletop has been successfully used! Wonderful!

I'm going to try and find time to figure out what's wrong with the Fists this week, zombo. Once I've done that, I'm gonna try and do a game or two every weekend.

Hey Simulated Knave, shoot me a PM sometime if you ever want a game against me. I'm definitely psyched to try this out some more.

Great work, I'm a happy man that it's been used at last.

How was the experience of using tabletop? Any suggestions for improvements?

Really nothing more than what I said in my initial post. Really, -really- needs the ability to select and move multiple models at once, and the ability to have a little types message appear on a model or just above it to make it easier to distinguish things like Vanquishers from normal russes, etc, at a distance would be awesome.

Multiple unit selection/movement is a definite, no worries there.

The other thing is trickier. It could be done with 3d modelling, but would make the process of creating new armies a lot trickier and so make it a technical skill rather than something anyone can do by following a guide. Is the text that appears when you mouse over a unit not enough? I could do something like give the option to make certain units glow slightly, or have a generic leader symbol appear above them, but unit specific text isn't really doable easily.

Glow or generic leader symbol works, sure. the little popup when you mouse over is nice, but I mean if you're looking for a vanquisher among 9 russes you might have to mouse over 5-6 before you find it. So yeah, just a generic thing would be great. Plus something to differentiate base color for the models? Like, currently they're all on grey-topped bases, if you could change that grey to other colors it would be good for knowing whicvh formation is which.

Honestly, I just bit the bullet and added a crapload of units to the Fists. It's a paint to add Tacticals with Captain, Tacticals with Librarian, Tacticals with Chaplain, Assault with Chaplain, Assault with...but it gets the job done. This would admittedly be more helpful if I could get them working. :P

The ability to distinguish between formations would be very, very nice. Though the actual tabletop game has that problem sometimes, in any case. ;)

EDIT: Oh, and I'll definitely be doing that, Warpeace.

Regarding the difficulty in getting the units working in game, I'll be back home by this weekend so you can send me a copy to take a look at then.

Or you can send them to me if you like - it must be something small you've missed, might just need a fresh pair of eyes to look at it...

Oh, and one more thing. I too am having issues with the screen of the game having a black border a good two inches smaller on each size than my screen. It's still ~1400x900 which isn't too bad, but my native resolution is 1920x1080. I tried going into Tabletop and then Config and putting in those values as suggested in the thread, but no dice. And yes, I did save the file after inputting the new values.
