0.25mm gaming is the future.

Given some of the reactions I've seen to the plastic Androids With Guns, I thought I'd try an alternative route and contacted Eureka Miniatures, who will make lead miniatures on request if the numbers are right, with the following request:

6mm Undead Skeletons with bayonet-packing bazookas.

Your typical sci-fi/fantasy skelton...packing a bazooka...that has an over-sized bayonet on it.

Think Army of Darkness. With bazookas.

My thinking is that a skeleton is already 95% of the way to a Necron, and a bazooka with an over-size bayonet would be a pretty easy "conversion" (paint the barrel lime green), but I'll bow to the knowledge of others in this space.

Eureka's positive response appears below (edited for brevity):

Our sculptors can make 6mm figures...the initial amount we need to start the project is 1,800 figures.

The figures would be 25c each, so a packet of 20 figures would [for arguements sake] be AUD$5.00 plus postage.

As of today's exchange rates, $A5.00 is about US$4.00 or GBP2.40. Am I right in thinking that's pretty reasonable for lead 20 minis, even with the postage? (Obviously, the more ordered, the cheaper it is per unit.)

NOTE FOR AUSSIES: GST applies, so 10% on top.

They charge postage at cost, but because postage varies with weight, they can't be specific about how much any particular parcel would cost. Having said that, the minimum postage rates are:

Australia AUD$6.00 (up to 500g)
USA AUD$12.05 (up to 250g)
Europe AUD$13.70 (up to 250g)

What's the interest level here? I'm not personally into Necrons, but is this something a Necron fan would be intereted in following up on? I haven't asked about Destroyer-equivalents or anything, starting with the basics, but I don't see why they wouldn't be happy to come to the party with other minis that skirt the IP boundaries in the same manner.  :))

From what I have seen, Eureka have some very talented sculptors and produce quality stuff.

Interested to hear people's thoughts.

Bazooka is probably a bad idea, as we may end up with something shoulder mounted. Suggest a bayonetted rifle instead.

Price seems extremely good; DRM/EW charge roughly (UK)20p per model I think, this comes to more like 12p.

5 models per base, 6 bases per formation, let's say 3 phalanx formations in the army, you're talking 90 models needed per person. That's only 20 people needing to sign up.

Though of course Exodus wars is likely to have a similar range soon if the rumours are to be believed...

Worth starting its own thread anyway.

Has anyone been keeping a list of the dudes interested in this sort of thing? I'm guessing there are more than 20 Epic players who have been keen on a Necron army.

E&C: Is this something you'd be interested in following up, given you already have some greens to show off? Not to mention Monoliths and Pylons.

Though Eureka is an interesting avenue, and certainly one to hit if nothing else works, should we not first bother DRm and Exodus who have a core competence in this (and a desire to fill holes).

Of course if its too IP worrying for them by all means we should bother eureka, being in Oz they have better laws too!

Though first we should see how the WL deathbots turn out and Exodus's project.

That could be very actionable intel ...  :blues:

I've never had the pleasure but you got me thinking. Why doesn't GHQ blatantly rip off GW on a 6mm scale?

a) Because they don't want to plagiarise in case they get sued
b) Because they concentrate on historical models. Check their site. WW2, modern, american civil war, WW2 ships, modern ships. They don't do fantasy. They don't do sci-fi. They know where they are good at and concentrate on doing that well.

I'm hopeful we'll see slighty modified versions of most of the Necron Infantry emerge from Exodus Wars as a new IP: Edenite Skeleton warriors.

I think you should wait and see what E&C and E/W comes up with Groover, it sounds like that’s going to happen, we just have to patient.

I don't have any info about EW. Tom and Christian are keeping the good stuff secret from me. Then again I'm only the hired gun, boo-hoo! I'm going to cry onto my pile of money!

That's awesome. I hope it works. If it happens once, they make money and don't get busted, who knows, maybe it'll happen for other epic infantry ranges.

If GW won't support their own game, why not find someone who will? Perhaps when they see other companies making money in a neglected market (which they created) they'll get greedy and try to support their own range!

I really hope it works.

Put Eureka and any others(I lack faith in WGF) on HOLD ...  This is pretty good intel IMO ... :blues: From what I consider very reliable but currently anonyous sources ...    My first job in the Army was in Recon ... now I work as a freelance PI ... :blues:   Be patient ... :)  :;):  Take my word for it ...
