Hi!
True. I did something like that with some proxy units in our netepic slann army and used 10mm lizards mounted on dinos with a large tech heavy weapon. The model looks real good and you can explain away the size difference.

Got those Pendraken figs too (both mounted and dismounted) ! Not sure what I'm going to do with them. But they are cool ! What's Sci-Fi without lizardmen !

If you want some of the Guard Bikes here are a couple of auctions for you to bid on:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....89&rd=1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....50&rd=1
Either will give you enough bikes for a couple of RR squads.

I checked out those two auctions and they look like SM bikes. I will bid on one anyway. Cant hurt to use them I guess. I wanted to stay away from using any (animal) type due to the whole theme of my army. Sort of based on a Battletech Regimental Combat Team. Combined arms with vehicles. No soft and chewy animals to get in the way

Those are IG bikes allright. But yes, they do look very similar. I agree that the idea of using horses in the 40k universe is a bit... well, funny. Other weird steeds maybe but the fact that horses have survived 40.000 years of war largely unchenged seems a bit weird.:;): I still have a company of them though -for collectors purposes of course:cool:
Cheers!

One of the ways you can tell the differance in these kinds of photos is look at the back of the bike. The Marine bikes have a smooth drop off and the Guard Bikes have a small point, almost like a back seat or something. The driver is smaller as well. The Marine bike has the sholder pads very obvious and the guard bike you almost only see the head of the guardsman.
The auction where the bikes are loose it is very easy to see the rear "hump" when you know what to look for. In the other one, I admit it is harder to see.

"The Marine bikes have a smooth drop off and ..." Gulp! An extract from Dafrca's twenty-four volume 'Taxonomy of bikes and jetbikes of the early 41st millennium' Cheers, Dafrca! Nice to have a corresponding reference encycolpaedia around! Now I have to see if the marine bikes you sent me correspond to the description!

I too am thinking about bikes rather than horses for my RRs.
I can understand how there might be a use, for example it would allow covert forces to move great distances without re-supply, living off the land.
But then I would hope by then that bikes would be electric powered and solar cells would be used to re-charge batteries (if required - I'm not an expert, but once moving, can batteries not be re-charged as you go?)
If using bikes, would you still use the basic RR stats (for E:A)?

I use both IG Bikes & R/Riders in some of my IG Rgts. The Chinese were using horse Cav as late as 1979. I also have the option in my IG Cav to deploy them on bikes or horses. We also kept the SM1 rules giving you the option to dismount. Using horse mounted troops not as tradional Cav but as "light horse", ie.- infantry mounted on horses for transportation. Of course we still have the ability to use them in a Cavalry Charge. I took on some Khorne Juggers like that once ! And remember my and Jervis's contention that Epic is a high tech version of WWII. The Germans and Russians (Cossacks) used Cav throughout, but as "light horse". Just some thoughts ... (of a sick mind) ...

If using bikes, would you still use the basic RR stats (for E:A)? | I use bikes in one of my RR squads. When I use them I just use the stats for the RRs as they are and invoke the "use as" rule.
So far no one has seemed to care. The stands are the same, the stats are the same, and it isnot like someone would mistake them as anything other then what they are.

I have wanted to do some stands with horses and one handler and stands with troopers on it just for fun.
