Since Epic: Armageddon is not (yet?) a dead game system in the eyes of GW, we don't have the wiggle room that NetEpic had at the time of its birth.

Hm, does that mean that if we call it netEpic2 we can handle it without this disabling terror of a cease and desist writ?

A fairly comprehensive handbook sounds spot on. Would definitely buy such a volume- so much better than having various separate downloads and bits and pieces. Totally agree with your sentiments Mr Drop Trooper:

"Standardisation is key to successful adoption--this is as true for gaming systems as it is in IT systems. The goal would be a single resource that contains all community-accepted rules and army lists"

This is exactly what we need. But how can we push on with it? If GW is unwilling to go ahead, then I think it would be surprising if they blocked attempts by the very people keeping the game alive? Who can I and everyone else contact in GW to give an opinion?

The real problem with a perceived "lack of demand" for epic is simple though- you can't go into a store and see the miniatures or buy the rulebook. No promotion equals no interest generated, it's hardly rocket science. :oo:  But I digress...

Only if we rewrite everything from scratch in our own words.

To clarify Zombo's comments, the rule mechanics cannot be copyrighted.  However, all of GW's text is.  It takes a lot more than a name change to skirt the IP issues.  NetEpic avoided infringement by completely rewriting all of the text, not just the bits the NetEpic team changed.  That's theoretically possible, but it's a massive undertaking.

For the time being, we are hoping that since Jervis and Andy originally asked Markconz to update his document to integrate the official errata that they will accept the version the NetERC (well... really Hena) put together in Markconz' stead.

As someone who uses the 2008 handbook, I will eagerly look forward to any updated version of this, since I have found it to be a very useful resource, as it puts all the core rules and army lists which have been approved together, which certainly makes my life easier.
