If it fit the fluff, yes. My point is, I'm tired of the 40K tail to wagging the Epic dog.

I have to concur on this.

While I wouldn't want to disregard 40k stats as potentials for comparison, quite honestly following 40k slavishly will mean:

- constantly changing stats, making it hard to achieve any sort of balance.
- absorbing the distortions inherent in 40k to make it playable (the space marine survivability thing is a good example, and one we can see has harmed space marine development already in epic).
- tying EA into 40k design decisions, a problem in that it absorbs the bad ones.

Some of the wierdness in the SM/TL era used to annoy me ("My marines die as easily as guardsmen!?!?") yet it was dissonance from the fluff that was annoying, not dissonance from 40k.

If it would have enough support from the community i would scrap all epic units and start from new. I would invent a system/formula to translate Wh40k stats ?to epic equivalents.
Only the rules would be unchanged and perhabs armylists.

ROFLMAO   :p  :D  :p

Wow!!!  And I thought the idea to change all of the titan weapons to match WH40K Apocalypse was bad!

Hasn't that conversion idea already been done?  I think it was leveled as a punishment by one of the Greek gods on a mortal for eternity.

OK, I'm sorry for my initial reaction.  Give me a second here...  Hang on...  Whew!  Let's try that again.

(clears throat)

No, I don't think that would be a good idea.  I think you should consider keeping the Epic unit stats as they are.  If you were to do a straight conversion I think your results would be disappointing.

But if you really want to do make the conversion, then I encourage you to follow your dream.

People should feel free to do whatever they want with unit stats as house rules if they feel like it. Make a compendium of alternative unit stats if you want but I'd be strongly against a mindless stant for stat conversion from 40k sneaking into official Epic rules. Epic game mechanics and scale is completely different (The Dreadnought debate is a god example of this). I want an Epic system that plays well. Not Apocalypse with smaller miniatures. :)

If it fit the fluff, yes. My point is, I'm tired of the 40K tail to wagging the Epic dog.

I also agree with this statement. ?It seems that every time 40K sneezes, someone wants to revamp Epic army lists, units stats, etc. ?What this amounts to is change for change sake, not for betterment of the Epic game.

It seems one of the biggest complaints on 40K boards is that the army lists, available models, stats etc are always being changed by GW. ?Why bring the headache of constantly having to react to GWs revolving door policy on 40K army lists to Epic?

I also play 40K and am excited about Apocalypse, but it's not Epic, nor do I want it to be.

Epic is not 40K just in a smaller scale, it's a completely different (and better IMHO) game. ?Should the purpose of Epic be to mirror 40K in the hopes of getting more 40K players to also play Epic? ?Are 40K players that closed minded that they wouldn't get into Epic just because some stats are different to fit with Epic game play? ?I hope not. ?

If the desire is to slavishly follow all the 40K changes in Epic, why not just play 40K using Epic miniatures? ?

Making house rules to follow the never ending 40K changes for ones own friendly games is a great idea. ?Constantly clamoring for army list changes every time GW or Forgeworld spits out a "new and improved" revision doesn't make sense to me personally. ? Your views may vary.

@Blarg: LOL :D
Well the current weapon stats already follow some kind of guidelines which link them to their Wh40k stats (eg Str 8 = AT6+[MissileLauncher], Str9 = AT5+[Lascannon], Str8+Ordenance = AT4+[BattleCannon]. etc).
The first big discrepancies only occured with the Swordwind armies.

Hahaha I think I love you.  :D

Seriously, Epic works so well because it follows the background, not because it follows 40k.

BUT

40k does sometimes reflect the contemporary background better than Epic (Due to wayward list development or plain old time & evolution), so sometimes, it's cool to update things a little, especially if the rule set in question is already in need of some TLC (IE: Titans).

OK, I'll admit, the last line caught my attention.

If you are sitting there trying to decide "should I be whipping myself or should I convert WH40K stats to Epic?" and whipping yourself seems to have lost its fun, then maybe doing the conversion of the Eldar stuff might be of interest.  I'm not saying that the stats need to be replaced, but I'm curious where your conversion says things are different between Epic and WH40K.

Curious, that's all.  If you decide not to do it then I will have no problems.

Hey, where did you get that picture of my uncle?!?

The whole family called him "Chairman" but I thought that was because he was a big Frank Sinatra fan.

At least he wasn't as bad as my other uncles.  Uncle Joe was a paranoid and Uncle Adolf had problems with foreigners and got into politics after getting rejected by an art school...

After flipping though the apocobook (well the data sheets at the back).  I found a few amusing and worrying things.

funny
Such as the melta cannons armour pen being 10+3D6!  I mean come on, when is it not going to penertrate?

Worrying, the random and non fluff approach to the nids section.  Heirodroles can fire 12 S10AP3 BS3 shots a turn and hierophants get 16.  As a nid player I love the new bio cannons, but they are somewhat overpowered.

Other worrying thins, the tunneling team for nids have to have a trygon, but there are no stats for him, nor are there stats for scythed hierodules?

But mass points are no longer in the nid rules (they have buffed toughness and wounds) so the IA:4 rules will be out of date and wrong.
