Well, if I may explain my position on why, IMO, Demiurg should move in a completely different direction to Squats:
- Squats are gone and not coming back - The idea was difficult to work with for GW. They managed okay in Epic Scale, but they're gone. Including Epic Scale - Demiurg, IMO, seem viable to go in a completely different direction to Squats, and I feel this is crucial if the idea is to have them 'official' or sanctioned - Squats and Demiurg aren't the same. Demiurg are the 'new sheet' to work with because GW found Squats, in the end, unworkable[mainly through studio apathy]. - Almost every Demiurg list on this forum is one which is made for people who have squat models. I'm know folks don't like it, but my opinion is that almost every list so far[inc ePilgrims] is basically a rehash of old and rejected Squat ideas. The latest lists have had appeal...but as squats. Seeing them as Demiurg just makes me sad, but we simply don't know. My work is much more of a leap from the old, mainly on the basis that squats are gone and not to brought back. This isn't as easy, or as desired for folks that actually own Squat stuff.
The name isn't really misleading as such, it's more...hypothetical. Still, the point stands: not everyone wants a Tau Titan, which is fair enough.
Please, believe this is a jokey way of putting it, but Tactica's assertion of the purpose of the Tau list does seem a little bit racist given the fluff of the Tau Empire. The Tau make extensive use of Mercs and aliens, they essentially *are* the aforementioned "spin off of some mercanary alliance seen in a couple 3 space ship battles somewhere in another 40K spin-off game". Still, CS seems content to 'see it to its logical end', so I'm going to keep talking until someon clobbers me over the head.
As an aside, I did a wee bit of work a while back, and it's *really* basic concept text and stats, but I feel you may as well look at it for where I've come from on this.
Still, there ain't a Kroot Merc list, and the Kroot are far more noted ground fighters in larger battles than the Demiurg are. I don't think it's required that we see a 'seperate' list for the Demiurg, but one which accounts for their role nicely.
And, from that, I can easily see the Demiurg Brotherhood upon a Bastion Class Commerce Vessel sending a few 'torpedoes'[ie these] in the direction of the Tau forces as aid for them. Hell, the Tau may actually have bought their services...it's not beyond belief.
So, my main point is: It's plausible for the Demiurg to present *something* in force for the Tau. If they're mercs anyway, then I don't see why it couldn't be these! Fair enough my sketches are rather poor, the 'idea' of it seems appealing to me. It may not be what the Tau need, but they don't really need them in BFG either, it's an added bonus IMO.
Sorry for waxing lyrical!
