Hi there,

We had nice battle yesterday. As usual some questions came up.
The battle was 6.000 points per side - 3.000 per army. Eldar + SM vs. Squats + Tyranids.

Some of the following points are Suggestions made by the players, i will just pass them through.

1. Dominantrix Shield: Melee combat: We let the Tyranid-player use his save on each wound caused. i.e.: Warhound titan with dual Chainfists wins melee combat versus Dominantrix by 20 points difference. This translates into 20 wounds caused and the dominantrix may roll a 3+ save (warp field) for each caused wound. the alternative way would be to roll one 3+ save for all 20 wounds caused. i hope the first one was right.

2. Bio-titan: Melee combat: If a bio-titan looses melee combat, how are the difference in combat result used? i.e.: Warhound titan wins over bio-titan by 2 points. does the titan loose two wounds and get one roll on a desired location (bypassing the critical hit roll automatically) or does he just loose the two wounds?

3. Preatorians: Melee combat: We had some tears because of this, for the first time ever, we had a melee situation including a preatorian. The rules state, that even infantry will add a dice to the next combatant. It seems off to our squad player, that even a small revenant titan gets a 3+ defense against infantry in addition to the rule, that only knight class and above will add dices in melee combat.

4. Regenerating bio-titans ... : Our Tyranid player suggested the we use a mixed version of the alternate and classic rules. Shoot - Hit - Save Failed - Critical hit determination [modified by penetrating] - Critical hit table [without penetration]. in the end phase the Tyranid player was able to regenerate all wounds caused including one not caused in the same round. It felt pretty good. The Tyranids were pretty hard to kill, but nonetheless easy enough!! to collapse.
i had a phantom titan with two heat lances in 25cm range who caused ~30 wounds in 2 rounds and still managed to kill the beast. the first phantom died as usual by the first shot fired at him :) wtb void shields.

5. Tremor Cannon: The vibro cannon states that its target must be in los or at least spotted. the tremor info text says nothing about determining the target especially when crossing the beams. i kind of liked the idea to shoot from total cover with dual tremor cannons, but maybe it's to unbalanced.

6. Wave Serpent Wave vs. Mekboy Dragstar: yep whats happening? :]

thanks in advance

2. first solution -> 2 wounds + 1 critical hit

3. Yes, it's hard for praetorians but remember that they are always considered on FF order (unless they have charged) and they have a bunch of Point Defense to kill infantry stands.

6. I'd say wave serpent shield is stopped by mekboy dragsta shield.

on the wave serpent shield:

I agree with scream that it should be reflected (it does not stop anything incoming, but reflects it) by the dragsta shield, unless you roll a "Hit", of course.

Additionally, should the Eldar player choose to drive the Wave Serpent straight through the Dragsta-shield  with wave still on, the dragsta shield should not affect it, since it only affects fire. That is, at least, how our gaming group interprets the rules.

cheers

sanjuro

About the 5:

Only vibro cannons and unicorns can fire at a unit not in LOS (and beam may scatter 2D6), titan with tremor cannons can only fire at a target in LOS.

Another question about vibro/tremor cannons when hitting a unit with a template:
- you select a hit location on the lowest portion but do you roll for scattering on the template ?

Thats a good question
sinc it hits automatcally, why it should scatter?

But we throw the Hit-location-dice
if there is a "up" or "down" the shot is lost

thanks for your quick response.
i have two other eldar related questions for you.

7. Why doesn't the Tremor Cannon crossed beams dont add up the TSM like the smaller ones do?
8. The Psychic Lance from the Phantom/Warlock titan states that it ignores shields of any kind, what about the dragstar/mekboy field/shield(the ork naming brought up trouble before, since some of their fields are shields ...)?
8.a The Psychic Lance states, that it ignores shields but allows psychic saves - we always assumed, that a titan with active shields will get a 4+ psychic save against the lance - making it a rather unimpressive weapon, considering the range.

7. because the tremor cannon on a titan is powerful enough without adding TSM
8. as stated in the Mekboy Dragsta description: "Weapons that ignore shields will automatically penetrate this shield".
8.a knock down titan shields with a pulse weapon (or other weapons with -1 TSM) and hit the titan with a psychic lance (hit on a 4+ with a warlock titan) and roll damage on the head, it's quite nasty :p Psychic lance is not really made to kill titans, pulsar or heat lance are better for this job, but shot at some greater daemons with it, your chaos opponent won't appreciate it.

8. agree :agree:
8. a)

As stated in the Adeptus Mechanicus 5.2 Codex:

Quote:

Warp Missile: ...A Warp Missile, although an explosive device, is powered by warp energy and is an ethereal psychic
attack. Models which make their Psychic Save are unaffected. Psychic Saves due to functional shields are not
allowed since this weapon bypasses the shield entirely

Quote:

Vortex Missile: ...Due to the nature of the energy involved the vortex is an ethereal psychic attack, and models which make
their Psychic Save are moved to the edge of the template. Psychic Saves due to functional shields are not allowed
since this weapon destroys the shield before they can be of help
.

For crossing Tremor Cannon, according to the rules, there's no deviation when hitting a unit with a hit location, you directly rolls for armor save on bottom location (legs/track). About TSMs, even if it's a titan, 2 tremors cost 170 points and can auto hit, with 100cm range, an auto hit with -4 TSM would be really really nasty.

Edit: misunderstood rule correction

If crossing you hit auto with TSM-2? and you don´t have to roll the hit location dice right?
If you don´t cross you have 2 attacks hitting on +3
with TSM-2
but you have to roll the hit location dice?
what is getting an "up" is its lost?
since a tremor cannon can´t shoot at higher locations

After re-reading the rules, I misunderstood them ;)

When a titan is hit by a cross beam, you automatically hit but you still have the armor save on the track/leg location. I would be strange that the wave could go up/down so I think it would be better to only roll the left/right dice ?

1. I agree with Ulric. Even if nowhere in the rules it is clearly written if you have to roll the 3+ save for the 20 wounds or for each wounds, we can read this in the NetEpic rules :
Quote:

Special Ability: Multiple Wounds
Some creatures are so tough that they will not die the first time they fail a saving throw. These creatures are represented as having multiple wounds. Place a wound marker next to the model each time it fails its armor save.[…]

2. Bio-Titans are Titans and Multiple wounds creatures. Thoose two rules have different but compatible consequences on what happens after a CC. So I agree with Scream. 2 wounds because they are Multiple wounds creature and one damage roll on a location of the template.

4. I don’t like the regeneration rules for tyranids in the 5.2 Army book. I think that hierophant are a bit too hard to destroy but the change of the regeneration rules affect too much other units. So, I like the rules you use but this : “Critical hit table [without penetration]â€Â
