Yep, I got mine today. I liked the Ultramarine stuff but was dissapointed with the "new" Black Crusade fleet. Although I don't play Chaos, it was just a copy of the one in the Rulebook, with the Vengance varients thrown in and the rules for Daemon Ships.

As for the Planet Killer - This is the fourth time they printed the rules, !st in WD, 2nd in Warpstorm, 3rd in The 2002 Annual and 4th in this mag. I'd be sure they could find a better way to fill the mag. :(

Cheers

Chris

Re Abaddon + the Planet Killer reprint, I think it is to tie in with the Black Crusade / Chaos marine list since both feature in it. I am also fortunate enough to have read a pre release copy of the EoT codex and both the Planet Killer and the two remaining Blackstones feature in the background story and possibly may feature in the ongoing campaign over the next few months...eg a daring raid to destroy one or all of them, If I remember right some twists and unexpected events were promised in the last issue of White dwarf.

RE Chaos Space marine Fleets

The main difference that I noticed was that Battle-barges and Strike cruisers have been declared post Horus Hersey and as such Chaos marines cannot use them, (possible future army list for renegade marine chapters such as the Red Corsairs from the Chaos marine codex) The addition of the new Demon ships to the list and the option to crew a vessel with Chaos marines giving a leadership bonus a boarding bonus, the option for a terminator boarding assualt, a plantery assualt bonus and the option to upgrade to carrying Thunderhawks, (if a carrier) if taken this otion halves the capacity of the ships launch bays...

Noticed they didn't include the Hellfire Heavy Cruiser in the Chaos list.  This is supposed to be an official ship.

Perhaps the Hellfire isn't part of the Black Crusade? Perhaps when they bring out the new model they'll include rules on how to use it (again :D)

Cheers

:D Demonships

I like these new rules, the emphasis seems to be to create a ghost-ship, appearing semi randomly (4d6 + a scatter roll from another vessel), and causing -1 ld to all enemy vessels attepting special orders within 15cm which has the option to remain insubstaintal, and immune to damage and so-on, although it cannot attack either, it also has the option to solidify and act like a more normal vessel, and which can disengage to recover damage although it counts as disengaging for victory points purposes. The otion to upgrade to a demonship can be applied to any vessel, cruiser and above in the chaos fleet.

I think I will add one of these vessels to my Genuss sector background for the upcoming summer campaign that the gaming group that I am a member of, the Northern Wasters is hoping to run.

regards...

What is Gothic Armada? A sourcebook or the rumoured new edition of BFG?

Battlefleet Gothic: Armarda is a new 160 page suppliment covering all the ships and fleets released since the game began. This is instead of the 2003 Annual this year. Also this will stay in print, unlike the annuals.

It is due for release November/December this year, and rumour has it that it will have the Tau fleet list in it. Also it will be the landscape style like the rule book.

Cheers

There is more than a few add-ins for the CSM. You keep all usual Chaos ship classes but get different rules for commanders. Instead of a fixed leadership of 8 or 9 you get +2 ld for the Warmaster?s ship (cost 100) and +1 ld for the Lord?s (cost only 25!!), maximum ld is 9 then. Warmaster has the usual reroll attached, and both Lords and Warmaster can buy a reroll for 25 points and one Mark of Chaos. So it?s possible to get 3 rerolls for the Warmaster, or 2 rerolls and another mark.
All carriers can get T-Hawks, BUT they halve their LB capacity and can?t launch fighters/bombers/A-boats then. I thinks it?s a fair deal then.
All ships can be upgraded to CSM special rules for 35 points. Ld goes further up by +1, to a max of 10.

Demon Ships are another nice idea. They can fade in and out, but give away VPs for disengaging, and they need one turn to materialise wherever they want to (and they scatter a bit). A BIG bonus is that they can regenerate hit points by fading into the Warp and returning later. Costs are fix and dependent
of ship class. The Demon Ship parts consist of 4 weapon pallets (so warped they could represent all kind of weaponry/LBs) a degenerated bridge and a
warped deck part. The parts look convincing enough, but you?ll have to convert and twist the normal plastic cruiser body by yourself, otherwise the contrast between the eery demon-bits and the clean cruiser body is too manifest.

They have a nice article on the Ultrasmurfs, and a funny Smurf-Barge... (ducks from lance fire)
Only 450 points, and exchanges the mediocre WBs and ONE T-Hawk for a str.6/60cm lance broadside.
It should either be reduced to 45 or even 30 cm or the price should go up to about 480/490.
The Barge is very ambigious: at range it?s got strong constant lance firepower, and closer up the Bombards add injury to the insult.
I think it?s too strong for the price, and a piece of heresy altogether.

The article on cruiser squadrons is competent, but offers nothing too nouveau. Of course a 3-to-4-strong cruiser squad is something to be reckoned with, but you expect it like this for 700-800 points...
The author mentions a few valuable arguments for cruiser squadrons but omits the counter-arguments completely. And some of his examples are not legal (max cruiser strength in squads is 4??) But nevertheless, the article is strangely appealing to me.

All in all, BFG Mag 15 is decidedly one of the better issues and quite strongly recommended!

The only thing I felt was a bit weird (and I'm being picky here :) ) was the reason stated for the CSM ships halving their flight deck capacity when they upgraded to using Thunderhawks. It was mentioned that they were larger than the standard fighters/bombers and so took up more launch capacity.

This doesn't fit in with my ideas of scale in the 40K universe. The size of the Epic/40K scale Thunderhawk isn't that much bigger than a Thunderbolt fighter, a 'land' based aircraft. The naval Imperial Furies and Starhawks I thought were noted as being a fair sized bigger, as were their Chaos counterparts, meaning that they would actually be larger than the Thunderhawks that replaced them, if you see what I mean :).

Jackhammer, giving up on his tortured logic and going to get something to eat!

I'm looking forward to getting a copy.  Especially with the CSM stuff.  I have completed a nurgle strike cruiser conversion and am about halk way through a Chaos undivided Battlebarge conversion which should prove rather nasty too :)

Yeah, I agree with you completly Jackhammer, it was stated that the attack craft were "jumbo jet sized" originally, which are definatly bigger than the Thunderhawks, even tho they are pretty big... :D
To justify the capacity reduction, you can say that the Thunderhawks need a more sophisticated system of launch, with more capcity taken up with fuel stores, boarding systems, drop pod racks for planetry assaults etc....
