So, new year, new projects!

I just dont seem to be able to focus on the eldar and am kinda hoping through bits and pieces I end up with an army without realising it...

So I decided to crack on with my Red Corsairs and I have been busy assembling them all, here are a couple of early test models to try out the scheme, my overall plan is to have a navy blue tinge to the black areas and avoid any and all brass/gold that isnt on khornate stuff

Havoks:

Wanna try out a further pastel blue drybrush to get the armour edges but I like how they're turning out now I'm looking at them in daylight

very clean. Instead of pastel blue you could try very light grey/pure white as a *very* light dry brush. As there is navy blue on the black areas already this white/grey if done lightly should come out soft pastel blue anywya.

hahaha
they look really nice!
It is common to paint the helmet or the jetpack in some of the minis and not in others?
or is it just to give some diversity?

Yeah just to mix it up a bit really, chaos marines tend to be a bit more individualistic and varied than loyalists

I've always liked what you share with us, your Red Corsairs are no exception. Personally I really like the way the blue is subtle, but a stronger (lighter) as Apoc suggested might just look better en masse (or as en masse as Marines get) while on a table.

I think the issue I have is taking pics in the evening when I paint, my lamp is quite intense and washes out the brighter colours a bit, I did take apocs advice and did a blue-white drybrush over the other two layers and I'm happy with the outcome but don't want to go any brighter, I want the scheme to be black + red rather than blue and red, so don't want to overdo the brighter blue colours in case they just end up looking blue + red

If you switch your white balance it'd probably handle much of the whiteout. It's been years since I've even seen a cell camera without an incandescent setting.

I can see where the worlds supply of chaos havocs went. ;) Evidently your red corsairs have to be actually red not purple or black! :) That's a nice test stand there!

mine does have an incandescent setting but that messes the colours up and makes everything look sepia...

okay these are the last havok pics I'll post up before they're done and based, I promise!

here's a daylight shot of the first stand that is actually in focus, it shows off the black colouring better

Image

also snapped a pic of another stand which has just had the drybrushing done

Image

okay, I'll stop spamming pics now :)

on a related note, has anyone got any recommendations for replacement drybrushes? both of mine are wearing out, they are the previous GW type and I really like both of them, I've tried the chisel tipped new type and can't get on with it, was thinking of grabbing some of the P3 variety, but from what I've read, their brushes have a marmite effect, with some loving them and some saying they are cheaply made, low quality pieces of crap.... any recommendations?

had a bit of a break from painting (mostly trying to glue those ruddy frustrating brass scorpions together, it was like spinning plates... get the claw to stick, leg falls off, stick leg back on, other claw falls off, stick claw back on, tail gun falls oft etc, TIMES TWO!)

I'm nearly done with the other two stands of havoks, but finally I've got (mostly) everything based and assembled ready for 'the big prime' at some point this week

here's an army shot minus the blight drones (awaiting basing materials) blood slaughterers (can't face more assembly headache at this point) and thunderhawk #2 which got knocked off the table and broken moments before the picture was taken >:(

Image

better get cracking!
