If i get the christmas bonus i am expecting, a big chunk of it will go toward building my own epic forces. Yes, i said forceS. I have played a few games with other people models before moving 2 years ago. Ever since, i have poured over the rules ( i bought the EA book, Swordwind, as well has have all the specialist magazines) and have decided to build 2 armies to complement my 2 BFG fleets (Chaos and Imperial). Having both armies as IG will allow me to keep the same set of rules but two different style of play. Having two armies will allow me to introduce others to the game as well.

For army composition, i want a combined arms approach so air support is a must. I want some formations to hold my boardside and some to attack with. I have forsaken titans because i want a look resembling 20th/21st century modern armies. My thoughts on the two armies are as follow.

Chaos IG will use the Siegemaster army list. This is because i really like the look of their heavy tanks, and as they are used as walkers, they could represent stalk tanks of a blood pact army! My tentative list:

Companies:
250 Regimental HQ +fortifications
300 Infantry +fortifications +rapiers
300 Infantry +fortifications +rapiers
250 Infantry +reinforced +snipers
250 Infantry +reinforced +snipers
Support Formations:
450 Siege Artillery Company
300 Heavy Tank Company
300 Heavy Tank Company
Air Support:
150 Thunderbolt fighters
150 Thunderbolt fighters
300 Marauder Bombers
total = 3000pts
Reinforcement:
450 Siege Artillery Company
300 Heavy Tank Company
250 Sappers
Total = 4000pts


For the Imperial IG, i want a mobile mechanized force because i love the chimeras and the valkyries. I also don't like the look of the Russes and want to keep it different from the Blood Pact army so this is what i am thinking.

Companies:
700 Regimental HQ +tank sqd
600 Mechanized Infantry +tank sqd
600 Mechanized Infantry +tank sqd
400 Mechanized Infantry
400 Mechanized Infantry
Air Support:
150 Thunderbolt fighters
150 Thunderbolt fighters
total = 3000pts
Reinforcement:
350 Storm troopers +Valkyries
350 Storm troopers +Valkyries
300 Vulture Squadron
Total = 4000pts

now before i spend a load of money, i would like some comments? :)

I think it works.  

While I agree the Chrimera is awesome you may want a few tanks just find alternatives that work.

I think the cult/Blood Pact army idea is awesome.  It gives you a distint army without all those Choas space marines to get in the way and steal the glory.  You are the untold horde of evil... :D  

Who can draw on your imgination to do what ever you like with the army.  See a mini you like add it it and it works.

Mech Inf, H/MBTs, FA and CAS ... An infantry heavy combined arms force ... Looks good.

Love the blood pact idea!  For the straight IG list how about adding in some SHT's- though they are expensive through GW they are often a steal on ebay.  Some shadow swords would be a a good addition.  Also what about stripping off a mech company and taking out the tank platoons in favour of a tank company- they have real punch and if your ordering through SG you have to get a full company anyway AFAIK.

i am 50 pts short of replacing the 3 tank platoons with a tank company.

what about 2 vulture squadrons instead, would that be better than 3 tank platoons?
more flavorful at least

They are very good with those missiles, 16 X 2+ AT is not to be sniffed at, also great late game objective snatchers, but their fire power does go down a lot when the missiles are loosed.  Also the tank company will have far greater staying power.  

Though for an all mechanised recon style force the vultures would definately suit.

I second the thought of including super heavies, especially Shadow Swords. It comes in handing having some titan killers. You might also want to consider some Hydras.

I too would strip the tanks from the IG list - add some hydras and some sentinals to scout ahead/contest territory.

how crucial are the hydras?
heavies instead of vultures?

not looking for titans yet.
