Several years ago, I owned a game store. I was able to collect a sizeable force from several 40K and Fantasy armies and while I always had an interest in at least painting some Epic models, I never got around to it. Fast forward a few years past the time when I could have gotten them at cost...or at all and now I'm starting the force I wanted to for a while now.

A few weeks ago I went to Mechanicon in Philly and played a demo game of Epic. That was all I needed to get me hooked. I dont know if ill play another game until next year's Mechanicon, but I'll have my own army to do so at least. My first 40K army was my second company Ultramarines, so I'm starting an epic force to match. I've already planned on getting a Tau force (my 5th 40K army) so I can hopefully get some people to try a game down the road, but for now, here's my start...

The fruits of my eBay hunting...lots of tac squads and rhinos, with a few terminators and heavy weapons squads thrown in for good measure

My commander with his tac squad and Rhino. My horrid attempt to freehand an Ultramarines Omega notwithstanding, I'm pretty pleased with them so far.

Right now I have no idea what technique to use for basing. I want them done to match my 28mm models so grassy, but I've never worked at such a small scale. Would static grass be too tall for 6mm? Would flock look too mediocre? Any advice in this front would be welcome.

Gold on mk6 shoulder pads!? Heresy! :)

Given how they are stuck in the bases, maybe fairly thick course material or tall static grass? There are different sizes though some madmen cut their own grass to size!

I started with yellow, then did a test with gold and liked it better. Besides, they match my 40k army...

Yeah whoever glued these bases in did so very badly. I'll have to hide the unevenness in my basing. I'm just nervous as I've never done 6 mm basing before. I use plaster putty on my 15 mm to fill gaps, but I don't think I can do that on something this small.

Have you tested to see if they pop out of the base?

They're in there pretty good. A few came out in shipping that I was able to put back in more level, but they're mostly my Devestators.

I'd recommend some super-fine acrylic paste. Layer it on and it'll nicely conceal the base plugs.

Also, New Jersey? Do you play at a store?

I've played 40k at Maplewood Hobby and Gamer's Realm in Hamilton. I'm just getting started on Epic. I live right between those two stores. To my knowledge, there isn't an Epic community to speak of around here....though I'm hopeful to find someone else interested in playing eventually.

I've been gaming (alas, not epic) at The Bearded Dragon, in Bernardsville. It's a little out of the way, but it's a great space. My local friends aren't going to be buying in to epic, so I'm still frustratingly without games myself, but the owner's more than happy for us to run whatever we want there (including epic specifically). I've even been trying to arrange a good time for another Taccommer (gunslinger007) to get together, so perhaps between three of -somehow- there will be common time to actually play with our tiny soldiers!

And now, I'll stop the derailment of your thread!

Oh by all means. I'd love to find someone that would let me put these guys to use. I've been to the Bearded Dragon. Gorgeous building. I actually got to talk to the owner for a bit too. It's not too far for me. I'd be willing to make the trip up some weekend once I have at least my basic force together to get a few learning games in. I've played netepic once, so I'm still learning.

Had to put my Epic on the back burner for a few weeks. I finally found some FSA players so I had to get my fleet painted. They're done so I'm back with an update...

My commander and his squad, based at last. Not too enamored with the freehand on the banner. I just got the bare basic of freehand at 28mm scale. At 6mm, that's probably as good as its going to get from me.

The force as it stands so far...almost done with my first Tactical detachment. And yes, since this was taken, I did go back and touch up the rhino bolters to match.

Anyone who does shoulder trim on epic models makes me impressed. Good job!
