Greatings everyone! Been lurking around here for a while but now it is time to do something.

I have loads of miniatures to paint, now I started. I was thinking about what army to start with. I have enough orks and marines. Had some eldar but was not enough for an army, so sold them. Also a couple of IG vehicles, several warhounds, 2 warlords + couple of Aeronautica ork, IG airplanes, terrain etc.

There are many armies with good background. Hard to decide...

I took some rhinos and made some tests. these are JUST TEST PIECES. I can paint better.

What mattered was speed and to have an idea about colours. No details added, just rough colours.

I am interested which you like and what you suggest.

I do not promise that I will post every 3 days but will try to do something at least once a week.

(and special thanks to L4 and Thomas for a lot of figures that I plan to paint)

Agreed. Generally speaking monochrome schemes work pretty well in Epic since the miniatures are so small. Washes and drybrushing are also by far the easiest way to paint and get effective looking results, which again leans towards fairly monochrome schemes. You can get very nice results by simply picking a base colour, shade and highlight it and then pick out a few details likes weapons, tracks and exhausts in metallic colours. Then if you feel like it you can always go back and add company markings and stuff like that.

Sallies are good, but I like the last, metallic, Land Raider scheme best.

You really do get more with less when it comes to EA vehicles.  Too many colors & too much iconography crowds up an Epic vehicle right quick and you risk looking clownish.

I added red to the desert colour (a bit like C&C GDI forces from old times)

I really like this combination.

The grey-black also looks good, especially if put on brighter base.

The last picture is a Chaos dreadnought (40k) but could be used as chaos titan.

My favourite options are the
- salamanders colours
- metalic (name idea: iron lions)
- desert+red (name idea: stormbreakers)
- grey+black (name idea: night hawks)

The Salamanders green is, imho, the most striking. Slap it on a brown or even urban base and that thing will look great.

I think it's funny that the Salamanders are the EA cover-boys, but you rarely see an army of them. Maybe that's why?

yep, salamanders are the most likely candidates.

I saw somewhere an army list too, so playing them would be no real problem.

btw that dread is unfinished...

I think the desert with red is my favourite of them, though the Salamanders one is nice too.

I think I start with Salamanders. Easy and fast to paint, but still look good and I also like the chapter.

I need to get my hands on some white spray paint to basecoat the units, otherwise it takes ages and looks not that good.

Scorpion green spaypaint would also be handy.  :vD  (not buying an airbrush for sure)

I will not discard the desert scheme neither. I have more than enough figures I think to paint up a second army later /or in between/

Printed the Salamander list, will read it in the evening.

I undercoat my Salamanders black. Then i drybrush with Snot Green, then drybrush with Scorpion Green.
Details with Black. Tactical Symbols are in Golden Yellow. Chapter symbol in Elf Grey (for 1st and 2nd Company). And flame motives too (Elf Grey undercoat then Sunburst Yellow and Fiery Orange). :)
All GW-Paints.
