... Hello Sci-fi Commander

Over the past month or so I have been playing a few test games of Pete Jones' new Sci-fi Commander rule set.

And while I was rebasing some of my Command Horizon minis to use in the game I was really struck by how utterly messed up our relationship is with GW.

GW treats us like cr*p.

And we take it.

Why?

We have alternatives people and GW doesn't deserve a single cent of our business.

I think that Sci-fi Commander is a great ruleset with army lists for piles of figures... and point cost calculators for building your own units.

So I am going to be walking away from Epic and the set of Marines and Guard figures I bought last month are the last I am buying from GW.

Ever

I strongly suggest that people here do the same thing.

Give your money and your support to companies that actually treat us properly.

Baccus (with Command Horizon)
Dark Realm
Exodus
Brigade Models
GZG

Once Sci-fi Commander is out I heartily recommend that people check it out and give it a try. Heck, it has a Squat list. :-)

I'm going to be gaming with my Epic minis in the future but it won't be with a GW ruleset and it will most likey be played in games using CH, DRM or even Exodus figs as I am going to be promoting those ranges to all my friends.

We've been letting GW profit from their poor treatment of us and we should stop.

Here, Here !  I've been pushing DRM and E/W for sometime now. I have pretty much everthing Doug and Tom have made. And believe the DRM Seeds of War rules are far ahead of anything G/W has ever done ... I'll be keeping my Epic figures and adding to the lot DRM & E/W ... and be using very little from the panoply of G/W Epic rules.  But as always ... DWWFY ... DRM & E/W work for me ! :;):

I'll definitely have a look if someone makes an announcement so I can find it when it comes out.

I still like the E:A rules so I am pretty happy to keep playing the game since I don't really need to buy anything again but I am also keen on giving out other good games a test.

I definitely think the other games deserve our support.  Seeing Dark Realm miniatures develop has been really refreshing and I am sure it is the same with the other games.  When gamers are in control of creating a game the end result is much better for gamers........ I just hate the fact that where the result starts getting really good corporations swoop on things and then the end result is usually what they perceive will be best for their shareholders pockets and if somewhere along the way the game looses that magic that made it specially I doubt they would really care.  But I am still in love with the old GW stuff, I have all the miniatures and rules I will ever need and I am happy to keep playing the games the way I enjoy playing it.  I have no problem playing games of fantasy or 40K with army lists that are now "illegal" when I feel that they are perfectly balanced and were changed to sell new stuff not fix problems (or when they were changed to fix list abuses that I don't use).

Does this mean there's a play-test version floating about somewhere? I'd love to get hold of a copy - especially the army list points calculator.

Is it available to download anywhere?

Reaver

On a general level, I do agree with PG.

GW have repeatedly let us down and profited from us. The amount of work put in by the members of this forum alone surely must outstrip the work level input to EA by 'GW', and yet we are not paid! However, this site has never been about getting GW money. The place exists because the games are fun, and the community is a nice place to be. When I took on the Tau development, it was not to contribute to GW, but to get involved in a game that I really enjoy.

I rarely spend at GW these days. Lord knows I have enough GW minis alone to keep me going for decades, and other makers are happier to get my cash. But, my dis-satisfaction with GW is different to my enjoyment of the game of EA.

I will continue to play, just as I will continue to support other makers. My minis may be required to pull double-duties, but that is not a bad thing.

I dont think that I will go over the Scifi Commander, since I am not a huge fan of the Warmaster core engine in general. I will use EA and DRMs SoW rules, and use various minis from both ranges and others in my games.

I encourage people to check out several games out there. If you want to use your GW Imperial forces, supported by DRMs Pax forces, against CH Centaurs allied with EW Khazari in games of Scifi Commander then that is fantastic... and I want a battle report and pictures of the game and will support these developments here as much as I can.

I actually hate Warmaster. And to put that into perspective I have a 7000pt painted Chaos force.

I stopped playing the game as I thought it was very badly balanced and had some core issues.

I don't have any of those problems with Sci-fi Commander.

And trust me, I was looking for them :-)

Knowing you, I dont doubt it!  :D

When SciFi Commander is released (or before, if there is demand), I am more than happy to add a board for it here.

And the truth is G/W really does not care about Epic or some of the S/G games ... They don't have too with WHFB and WH40K making them the "Big" Bucks or Pounds as it were ! And I understand from a business stand point ... So With DRM and E/W catering to us 6mm Sci-fi geeks, I'll buy thoses.  And as some have said, I'm keeping and will use my 'Uge(!!!) Epic Collection. :O  With many models and even Armies needing painted(Tau).  And in one spot in my War Room is an ever growing pile of New DRM & E/W SIB.  However, since G/W did give me such a good deal to resub for 2 years more years of W/D ... I had to reach for the VISA !  I was planning to save some $$$ and not resub ... But the Ferengi in me couldn't say not ! :alien:

In a frankly transparent attempt to improve my own popularity (  :D  ) I have added a board for Sci-Fi Commander. The web site states that it may be with us in June, so I expect it to be quiet until then, but feel free to begin using it now.

So, that makes it the equivalent of a 40K player moving to Sci-Fi Commander in the grand scheme of things? I can live with that!  :;):
