I am currently working on an Ulthwe craftworld army as a commission job for a fellow forum member.
The army is using the Ulthwe list:
http://www.tacticalwargames.net/cgi-bin....=ulthwe
As such I am going to keep a little diary to keep them up to date with progress and let other forum members have a look at the minis as they progress.
I am aiming at a fairly quick turnaround on this army so it should all be doing in 4-6 weeks.
I don't have all the minis yet to paint it as I am still waiting on some miniatures to arrive from GW UK but I have started making some progress as a fair bit has already arrived.
Its been like Christmas having all these minis arrive. I am getting really attached to this army. I like the scheme, I like the list and I like all the Forge World goodies, especially the fliers. The Vampires are just awesome!
The army list
1. Avatar (p) 2. Wraithgate 3. Seer Council (p) 4. Guardians (p) + Support Platforms + Wraithguard 5. Guardians (p) + Support Platforms + Wraithguard 6. Guardians (p) + 4 Wave Serpents 7. Guardians (p) + 4 Wave Serpents 8. Black Guardians (a) + 3 Wave Serpents (a) + 2 Falcons (a) 9. Black Guardians (a) + 4 Wave Serpents (a) + 3 x Vipers 10. Dark Reapers (p) + Exarch + 2 x Wave Serpents 11. Dark Reapers (p) + Exrach + 4 x Falcons (a) 12. Warp Spiders (p) + Exarch 13. Warp Spiders (p) + Exarch 14. Shinnning Spears (p) + Exarch 15. Shinning Spears (p) + Exarch 16. War Walkers (a) 17. War Walkers (a) 18. Falcon Troop (p) 19. Falcon Troop (p) 20. Night Spinner Troop (a) 21. Night Spinner Troop (a) 22. Fire Prism Troop (p) 23. 2 x Revenant Titans (a) 24. Phantom Titan (a) 25. Warlock Titan (a) 26. Vampire Raider (FW) (p) 27. Vampire Hunter (FW) (a) 28. Pheonix Bombers (FW) (a) 29. Pheonix Bombers (FW) (a) 30. Nightwing Fighters (FW) 31. Nightwing Fighters (FW) 32. Firestorms x 6 (a) 33. Jetbikes (p) 34. Jetbikes (p)
18/34 done! - half way! Only the nightwings left unassembled.
I will keep updating anotations on the army list to show where I am at (a = assembled, p = finished painting)
I had some fun today converting up a dark reaper Exarch with one of the double missile launchers.
All the assembled stuff should be painted by tomorrow night so stay posted for updates.
This is the test scheme for the army:
With the aspect warriors and tanks using a similar scheme to those I done for Kims army (with Ulthwe colors of course) http://www.tacticalwargames.net/cgi-bin....k_logue

Thanks guys!
I am waiting for the glue to dry for the basing on the infantry I have assembled so far so I was going to paint up the Wave Serpents for all the units but after finishing one I realized I hadn't done a test scheme for vehicles. So I will wait to check this is OK and try and get all of it done tomorrow.
I figured out a step to make basing tanks faster while doing this which I am really happy about. Usually I make the base using milliput over a washer and then glue sand on so you have to wait ages for it to dry and gluing the sand on takes a while to do (plus it is my most hated job in army creation). Now I have started just pressing the bases into crushed granite before the milliput sets so the surface texture sets rock solid in a couple of minutes, its much faster and less likely to have the texture falling off during gaming.
+++ Edit ---
I am also looking for suggestions for objective markers. A couple of things were miscast from forge world so will probably end up as objectives and I should be able to make a destroyed titan using some spare bits I have lying around but if anyone else has any suggestions I would be keen to give it a shot. I am planning on making 3 objectives up as well as the Warp gate and a bunch of blast markers to go with the army.

The bases are outstanding (no suprise there from you) and I really like the Waveserpents. Great detail.
I will be watching this with great anticipation.
I bet you will (and so will we all) .

Well I managed to get the first unit complete before the kids woke up and wanted to play.
Unit 10 - Ulthwe Dark Reapers with Exarch. I took the liberty of hacking up a couple of dark reapers to make an Exarch with the big double missile launcher the 40K ones have. Couldn't really think of any other way to represent the exarch.
I have done a base coat on all the Guardian units assembled so far so I should be able to get them done tonight.
Here is my rather messy workstation covered in Forge World goodies.

I am finding it takes about the same time as all my other armies. I generally do two coats of paint for shading on Epic minis (usually two drybrushes) and with this I am doing the same except grey drybrushing then bringing back to black with inks and an extra highight afterwards (so actually one extra step).

Its a bit of a worry, drinking and painting. Luckily my wife only buys me light beer so it adds to the relaxing painting mood instead of making me completely uncoordinated with the brush.
I included a few treats to myself in the quote for this army. By treat I mean I quoted plenty of time to spend painting on some of the more special miniatures in the army so I can really sit back, take my time and enjoy painting them.
The first of these was the Seer Council which I have just completed.
Unfortunately the photo didn't turn out so great and the highlighting doesn't really show to well but gotta go out so no time for stuffing around with more pictures.
Item 3 - Ulthwe Seer Council

Mark,
Thats a sweet job there.. I'll have to come back to qld some time and have a better look, but from here thats one of the nicest armies i've seen in a while. I think the bases are really striking.
Cal,
This is a good source for my IG commander's S2 shop. Shame my tanks are still at the undercoat stage
