Pictures of the Golden Demon winners use to be in White Dwarf.
They they became a little booklet that was free with WD.
This year they are:
Golden Demon '04 Winners Booklet
This 44-page booklet contains all the winners of Golden Demon 2004, and is now available from Hobby Centres, Direct Sales, the Online Store and exclusively from WHSmith. (
and it costs ?6.00
rather GW if you ask me...

Ouch! That is terrible! I like glancing through the free suppliment and looking at the pictures, but I will NOT pay for it! Who will? I would be surprised if they shift many copies at all.
I must admit that I am getting more and more hacked off with GW in general.

I think they are definitely pushing the elasticity of demand envelope. In considering the annual financial report Primarch referenced a while back, I've been thinking that they are headed in the wrong direction. They are making more money, but on less revenue. Given the price increase, the reduction in units sold has to be that much greater for the revenue to have dropped.
All that adds up to a slide in market share - bad news for a hobby-driven company.

I've been looking into alternate game companies for just this reason...I'd love to get the new Wood Elf Army when it comes out (unlike a lot of people I think it looks tres cool) but with prices having gone up and going up again for retailers (MSRP isn't just the cost to retailers)...The only problem is no one is willing to take a risk on newer companies...retailers are to afraid of losing money and players are afraid of fad games (thanks to GW for that fear with the now Specialist games)...

Quote (deathlynx @ 25 2005 April,14:18) | I've been looking into alternate game companies for just this reason... | Realistically speaking how big do you think the market is for 6mm sci-fi figs?
If GW just says "forget it" would there be room for more companies?
I always got the feeling that unless its "branded" to a specific game the market... at least in North America anyways... is a bit lackluster.
Ground Zero sales in NA comes to mind on that count...

I think GW is going to have to do something drastic in the next couple of years or sooner to continue anywhere near the same level of revenue and profit . Who knows what they will do...but I predict that it won't be good for the end consumer.

The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised to see "pay per view" style areas of their websites...
Cheers!

I was horrified when I saw this myself - to the extent that even I didnt buy one, despite it featuring Logan & co. As it happens, my GF bought me a copy 2 days later, so I do haveonefor my records, but its still a ludicrous price considering a lot of it is old pics we've seen before & many of last years pictures arent that good.
On a side note - if you see a copy, flick to the back & check out the epic carnifex - absolutely amazing!

To speak the truth, this thing quite ****** me off. As if GW do not earn enough already. As if we need some stupid interviews in the booklet.
On other hand, I have a feel that they are wasting money in some areas - and this feels plainly wrong. Say, the oh-so-new Tyranids. They were allright as they were before. NO. Gw HAD to re-do large part of the range, in effect paying a lot to their sculptors. They HAD to create a new set of expensive metal moulds for the plastic Carnifex, with a bajilion obsolete components (who needs seven spare Carnifex heads anyway?). I think somebody up there in GW went completely nuts.

Hi!
Any expense towards increasing core sales, such as this catalogue, is always a good idea in GW's view. Better yet when you can get people to pay for it.
If they only put 1/1000th of a percent effort in epic as they do their other core games things would be quite different.
