Right, never one to let apathy get in the way of an idea, I have decided to simply pick up this idea and run with it. So, the point of this is that I am going to go ahead with the Spotters Guide to Gothic, the series of articles focussing on individual vessels.

So, I will get this going as soon as I can. The original thread about this idea can be found here:

Old EpiComms Thread - Gothic Guide

So, if anyone has a submission or fourteen, email them to me now so that I actually have something to put in the new section!

Chris - We had a chat about this a while ago. I would like to link to your Epic version of this. Each fleet will have a main page, and on each of these fleet pages I will add a link to your gallery. Let me know whether this is OK or not - I have no intention of getting into competition.

Thanks.

I almost forgot...

I was thinking about exactly which ships should be included in the guide.

Included: Blue Book, Warp Storm, Annual(s)
Not included: Very unofficial ships

Not sure: Ships which were not in the Annual, but were in Gothic magazine.

What about: two extra categories, one for own ships (very unofficial) and one for ships which were in Gothic Mag only?

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

I still think this is a really good idea, and the only thing not allowing me to send in something for submission is the lack of a digital camera.  I have painted epic and BFG items that I could send in.

I'll write some stuff up, so that its ready if I ever get my hands on a camera.

It's an excelent idea!!! (lol)

What I think should be done is that say for the imperials you have:

Official ships (blue book, warp storm, 2002 annual)

Un-official ships (BFG mag, Planet killer, rejected ships (daemon slayer, cardinal class (BFG mag 2)) etc)

Home grown ships (as it says, conversions etc, but no rules with them - if people want to give you rules add a link and put them in the new rules section!)

I could whip a sample page together for you based on the epic40k.com de'aynes gallery if you want??

Also, why don't you change the name from spotters guide to De'aynes gallery to show the connection between the two sites?

Lastly, I don't want to be in competition with you, just in collaberation.

Just my thoughts

Cheers

Chris

Hey, thanks for your comments. Also, thanks for your offer. I have actually already started putting this together, and I would like it to be a little differently organised to the epic40k.com version (no frames).

As for the name, how about a compromise - De'Aynes Spotters Guide to Gothic?  ???

I hope that this will benefit both the sites lists.

OK, so which ships should be included, and which certainly should not?

The Blue Book ships, Warp Storm and Annual ships certainly should be allowed.

The ones in the Gothic Mags, I think could be included as well, with a pointer to where to find the stats and rules.

As for 'home grown' ships, I am tempted not to allow them. The chance of other people using these ships is very small, and in the end I see this as a resource - highlighting the individual ships, how to use them and what knd of colour schemes people are using, etc.

If you don't want to include home grown ships then don't - It's your site not mine  And don't change the name if you are happy with the one you have :D

If you are putting it together already then I wish you well with it - any problems you know who to come to (me! :D ).

Thats all

Cheers

Chris

PS, when you do get this going remind me to submit some ships!

Thanks. While I do run this site, I would hate it to be 'mine' (if it had only my ideas and articles, then not even I would read it!).

I would argue that 'home grown' would not be included, but I am perfectly willing to be persuaded otherwise. What do you all think?

Dont worry, the first problem that I have will result in an email to you, Chris. One thing that I realised that I do need, and that a few of you could provide is a background for each fleet.

Basically, there are continuous posts at various places about how each fleet plays, etc. So, on the fleet page, where you can select the vessel to look at, I will include a brief article about the general fleet, strengths, weaknesses, character, etc.

So, who wants to volunteer?

You get - to contribute to the site (with you name referenced on the article), and recognition as an expert on the fleet!

I get - about 500 words (but as much as you feel necessary) of an article about the fleet. It should include a brief background on the development (eg Tyandids in their second generation list in various Gothic Mags, not official, etc). It should also have a semi-detailed overview of the fleet, its character and how it (should be) played. But, you cant mention any specific ships, only the fleet in general (although saying something like 'core of the fleet with Murders and Carnages' is fine).

The fleets are:

Imperial
Chaos (Including Chaos Marines)
Eldar
Orks
Imperial Marines
Tyranids
Necrons
Dark Eldar

So, can anyone help me out with this? If so, let me know which fleets you are an expert on. The only thing is that I will need the first one or two (Imperial and Chaos) as soon as possible. It would be good to get a couple of people to put these together and take a few fleets each.

Thanks.

I like this idea alot.  And if I had a vote, I'd suggest passing on the home-grown stuff.

Everyone has a vote!  :o  Noted.

Right, what I need now is someone to do the Imperial fleet introduction. Anyone... anyone...?  :-:

Otherwise I will have to do it. (After that, I will need someone for the Chaos fleet...)

Well, I have finally got around to sorting this out. The Chaos and Imperial fleet pages will go up with the next update - probably some time this week. I am then expecting a whole load of pictures and submissions from you guys!  :o

Hey CyberShadow, I just noticed somthing- if you go on the "Imperial Fleet" section, and you go down to the ship lising, it says:
>>"Vessels of the Chaos Fleet"
Hehe, an error?!

Some other suggestions- you need the Imperial Armageddon3 ships- the Apocalypse and Oberon Battleships and the Armageddon battlecruiser....

I just read the ships that are included... even though the Armageddon ships are not in the Annual, Blue Book, etc.., I think they should be included as they are kinda official GW.. :l Hehe guess its up to you in the end tho :;):

D'oh! I have corrected that mistake, and the Murder being labelled as a Devastation!

I managed to get the update online last night before my gf dragged me away from the PC, and I thought that no-one would notice until I posted today. It is comforting to note that people do actually look at the front page.

Anyway, now that is up and away, I am looking for contributions from you guys. So, send them in as quick as you can.

As for the Armageddon vessels, that is a good point. I would like to include them as well. They are not originally listed as I started with the Blue Book ships and a few more obvious extras. Even if a ship is not listed feel free to add it if it is 'official' (either in rules or for example like the A3 ships). I will add the name to the list. I simply could not go through all the Gothic Mags and list every ship that has appeared.  :l
