Hi!

While speeches of optimisms are rare from me....

...FW is epic's only hope.....

...I will keep that hope, come what may. :)

On a side note, I hope GW produces the flyer units for future armies, I really hate the oversized FW flyers and would hate to see them become the norm. :(

It ain't a case of the planes being too big, they're just at the proper scale (going by published dimension stats) for the first time. If anything certain other units may actually be scaled so they're too small, but ratio-wise, the FW flyers are pretty much spot on.

Fanatic/SG is still making minis for Epic, just at a slower rate than before, and most of their releases will be older stuff repackaged (although there was talk of Tyranids being new designs)

The rate is already too slow currently to keep interest high and motivate new players to migrate from 40K. The old stuff repackaged will in all likelihood be a huge disaster sales-wise.

And with this reduction in production by SG themselves, GW have given FW the go ahead to produce more stuff for the SG range.

Since when did FW need GW's approval to produce stuff for the SG range ? What I understood was that FW models would be actually included in the GT army lists, not just as "count as" models.

Although nowhere have I seen anything posted to say that the future armies won't be produced in some numbers by GW, so a lot of what is written on certain other forums (not mentioning any names...) is a bit over-reactionary.

I don't see how over-reactionary it is to point out that considering SG just had its operations significantly reduced on the basis it sells not as much as the cash cows, and that the current direction SG is taking ("online support" ie no books, rehashed minis lines...) will lead to *even less sales*, then in all likelihood further cuts will come down the road.

After all, one year ago, we had not seen anything posted to say that the future armies would exclusively consist of rehashed miniatures (quite the contrary, the over-extended release schedule was instead explained by the small sculpting resources of SG).

I suppose anybody pointing out back then that the release schedule was way too slow to generate interest (want to start Chaos ? Come back in 2007 !), didn't include some of the main armies early enough, and would probably run out of steam before rebuilding a sufficient user base would have been over-reacting too ?

Hi!

I agree with CorwinB. Its a vicious cycle of less sales-less support-even less sales continuum that will pretty much bury SG (which in my view IS already buried).

There seems to be contrasting views regarding FW though, or at least not everyone in FW is on the same page regarding what FW will do with epic. At the very least if they continue to produce at least "some" epic stuff I'll be happy. Of course, that approach is unequivocally newbie-unfriendly.

Make no mistake, for all intent and purposes we are beginning another "epic dark age" of low support and "deaf ears" from GW regarding epic. In some senses worse (no archive any more) and in others better (FW epic minis). The advantage this time around is that it really should take no one by surprise. The signs are everywhere. Just assess your collections and buy accordingly, optimally within the next year, after that pickings look slim beyond FW offerings.

No worries guys, I just bought a lotto ticket and if my number comes up, I'll buy the rights for epic..... :;): :p

One can dream... or hallucinate.... :D

I dont think that GW would sell the Epic rights for any amount of money. It would need to include a lot of 40K rights as well, and there is no way.

I dont want to prolong this thread by saying the same things here. I am not as depressed about Epic as perhaps some here are. I do think that the community will continue, and I know for sure that this site and these boards will still be here no matter what. If we are still here as a community, then Epic is not dead. Simple as that.

However, I do have serious doubts whether Jervis will still be with GW/SG in 12 months time. I guess that we will need to wait and see, but I can see Epic getting little more than lip service after a few months. I dont think that this will kill the game, and in some ways I think that it may help.

However, contrary to popular opinion, I dont see the FW ammouncement as a necessarily good thing. The way that I read it is that FW will continue what they are doing, producing some very nive minis, but without the co-ordination or limited by the army lists, but that without SG at a high output, they will be the main provider.

Without SG, there are a few more avenues open to FW, for example the more expensive stuff that FW could re-release much cheaper (I doubt that FW would release resin Chaos Marines for Epic if GW redid the range, but if they just rerelease them previous versions - and even that may be optimistic at this point - then there may be more mileage in FW Chaos troops.

If they just brought back "the Archives", to include E:A.  And released a new army/model(s), now and then, plus F/W released some on occasion, Epic would survive ...  I still have hope for a Necron Army, at least, to be released by someone ...  :D

Which brings us to the next question, who would jump on a 6mm-scale futuristic game designed by Jervis Johnson and Andy Chambers outside of GW ? :D

In a heart beat CorwinB! :)

I would kill for ANY company to produce and support a 6mm sci-fi game, with any background as long as it is truely supported. Once I thought I-kore could do it, but no chance there.....

...maybe Mongoose will do SST's in 6mm?
