Given the fleet list shown here, which Battleship do y'all think I should add next?

I was considering an Apocalypse (built of a Retribution hull) or an Oberon (built off an Empror hull), as I'm not a big fan of the Retribution in-game, even if the model is really nice. Also, the classic (ie, original) prows look better to me, hence basing whichever ship I do do off the old hulls.

The Oberon is good multi-role ship, but I would build the Apocalypse- broadsides of lance batteries look really cool, and are very powerful, if relatively short ranged for a battleship...
I have one, based from a Ret hull, and it looks ace, and tends to perform well in battle too! :)

Anjd why not go for a grand cruiser? yopu have none in your fleet, so those could be an option as well :) I favour the exoorcist (a much veter ship than the dictator IMO for 10 points more) and the vengeance. I ploaytested both 2 weeks ago and the result was highly satisfactory to me: my carrier did not die and the vengeance added some noce firepower to my fleet. The fact that they are armour 5 in the front is not a biggie, since the extra shields help counter that fact.

Health and sixes,

Xavi

Xavi - I really don;t like the prow on the Grand Cruiser models, its very ugly. I appreciate I could convert it, but most of the classes available to the IN aren't very inspiring at the best of times. If I were to take one, I'd probably go with the Avenger class gunboat, possibly in a pair, but until/unless a variant hull for Grand Cruisers comes out (and I'm not holding my breath), I'm unlikely to take one.

I would get a Retribution quickly followed by an Apocalypse.
I know you say you don't like the in game stats of the Retribution but it is a great looking model. I have a soft spot for it as the first metal BFG ships I bought to go alongside my first squadron of plastic Imperial cruisers.

I think that unless you are doing a variant fleet like Battlefleet Armageddon then every Imperial Fleet should have a Retribution. You may not be the maximum points-effectiveness ship in the game but you will win on style points.

After having got at least 1 Retribution then I would recomend an Apocalypse using the Retribution hull. You will have to fill in the holes of Ret's torp tubes and add a nova cannon, but otherwise fairly simple. You will then have the satisfaction of fielding the SECOND best looking ships in the game, given that it is as close as you can come to looking like a Ret without being one!!!
:D

Cheers

James

PS: Did I say that I like the Retribution.....

Fair enough :)it was only a siggestion.

if you don't take it, I would go for any of the 2 other BBs. Both would play nicely. I personally hate the apocalypse with all my soul, but that is because I am both rather suicidal when using my ships and copnservative when it comes to deal damage to myself. Contradictory, I know, but I prefer that it needs to be the enemy to cause damage on my ships.

I love the apocalyse model, though, so getting one and arming it as if it was a retribution might be an option if you like that prow.

health and sixes,

Xavi

Personally, i'd buy an Apocalypse hull, then make an Emperor from it. I love Voss prows; they're almost enough to make me collect Imperial stuff again...

If only we had Voss prow cruisers so that we could field a legal fleet for all the Voss prow battleships that we want to field.

Prow building is really quite easy and very cheap.

Yeah, did that. After 1 Voss Armageddon and some seriously cut fingers, I decided to give it a miss.

Go with whatever you feel fits with your fleet, another Emporer, fine another Emporer it is, a Retribution to represent a different commander, a Ret it is...someone mentioned Style ah yes

[QUOTE]You may not be the maximum points-effectiveness ship in the game but you will win on style points.

but please wargame_insomniac what do you mean? bearing in mind I use a Ret alot (its my Battleship)...just curious...

but for choosing another battleship, I would go for a vessel that screams to me after my primary one...

In terms of game effectiveness the Emperor beats the Retribution hands down. The Retribution is undergunned for its points cost. The Emperor has almost as many weapon batteries as the Retribution PLUS load of launch bays.

But the actual sculpt for the Retribution looks so cool. I just love the prow design. It was my first purchase of BFG ship, along with basic box set. Myabe it is just nostalgia but I just love the look and the style of the scuplt.

Cheers

James
