1899 BREAKING NEWS: British Regulars Assault a Hill Martian Stronghold!
Hi Guys,
The game didn't go so hot. One of the players got a little hot and quit after about four turns. He hadn't gotten enough sleep and acted poorly. He decided that I crticized the "Sword and Flames" artillary rules too much and blamed me for his quitting.
Oh well, such is gaming.
---
Mike and I played two British squads supported by a Japanese infantry scout squad. The allies also had some support from an "Aphid" skyship (See the Sky Galleons of MArs SGOM rule set for more details... ), but it couldn't be called in until the Martians had their arty destroyed. Martian arty is apparently very good at knocking down skyships. We never did get a chance to call in the "Aphid" during the game.
---
George and Vaugn played the Martians who had a Hill Martian sword unit, a Jezail unit, a musket unit, a pike unit, a 6 lbr cannon, two "Lobber" mortars, and a big AAA cannon-type thing.
Vaugn quit after he lost his temper and got mad at me. This isn't the first time he has done it the guys told me.
---
The game might have gone either way by the time we called the game because Vaugn left.
We went out for sandwiches and coffee after the game.
I'll add a little more later.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Ah... "Such is War... games." Try decaf, next time!
That happened once in an Epic game when I damaged his Titan's MIU (AT/SM-1 rules) and his Titan fired at the closest unit... which happened to be his own S/Swords! OOPs! ?
He was not pleased!

GAMERS & IMMATURITY:
I'm pretty disappointed that Vaugn acted that way. It was really immature. The guys rationalized it by saying that he has had a hard life and is currently out of work, but that still doesn't quite cut it for me. I understand immaturity, but all of us are in our 30s and 40s and we're a bit old to have that kind of behavior still.
I'm not really rattled, but it still is a pain.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

MEGA-Trade Initial Impressions:
Dalton and a few others have asked me to jot down my initial impressions upon receiving the last of the MEGA-trade items:
------
The INITIAL TWO:
BIG BOX #1: This box was full of Geo-Hex and I liked it, but I also had a though of how bulky it is, which takes up more storage space in my tiny apartment.
BIG BOX #2: The second box was full of... TREASURE! Jackpot! I was very happy with this lot, which had a number of beautifully painted Squat items, a ton of infantry squashed into card trading boxes and some odd treasures like: Star Wars Episode II - Trade Federation Landing Ship models! Very cool! I had a gigantic smile planted on my face when I opened this item and the anticipation of what to come really had me excited!
------
The LATER FIVE:
---
Dalton: Just found this thread, your self control is amazing, I would be tearing into the boxes, but, beware the little ones, they are packed with small styrofoam balls - they love static and fly everywhere. |
- I have to be a self-controlled person and I can thank my little sister for helping to make me such a patient person (Badumpbumpbump... ).
- You were right about those little styrofoam balls. They are everywhere. When I opened the first box, some of those balls flew up to my celing and stuck there. It was very weird. I was also unfortunate to be wearing a nice sweater when I opened them, which attracted a chest full of white styrofoam balls. I must have looked like an abominable snowman or yeti before I started brushing them off into a paperbag that I static charged with a brush and lint to get the styrofoam balls to stay. It was very annying, but that was a price I was willing to pay for the MEGA-Trade!
---
Dalton: The heaviest of the three 19" monitor boxes contains lots of the trading card storage boxes I sent you in the first order. |
?
- There must be about twenty of those trading card boxes stuffed full of epic minis and paraphenalia in addition to all of the loose items. Unfortunately, because the items were stuffed in, many of the plastic models have damage and many of the painted metal models had their paintjobs scratched badly. These things happen and I understand about that. It's still sad...
---
Dalton: I suggest you get a bunch of storage/sorting bins from the local home depot in order to sort out/inventory the collection.
- I bought about twenty US Dollars worth of transparent plastic shoe boxes from The Dollar Store awhile back to organize this stuff. I use plain 3"x5" index cards and write on them with a thick black marker to label them after sorting. I tape the index cards to the ends of the shoe boxes to easily label them. As of Sunday morning (19 December 2004), I still haven't yet begun the inventory and sort. ?
---
Dalton: There are lots of Gothic and Epic sprues in this order as well.
- YES, there certainly are!
---
BOX ONE (The heaviest 19" monitor box): Wow! This one was really packed full of miniatures. I think that there were about six to eight card storage boxes full of minis in this one. Wow again! However, as I unpack them, they don't seem as impressive as I orginally thought. Maybe I just need to look at everything together.
BOX TWO (The 19" monitor box packed with terrain): This box has some pretty neat stuff in it including a number of finished E-40k ruin sections and a blue building comples that Dalton must have built. There was also a Micromachines loader machine and a number of Star Wars pieces from the old plastic Battle of Hoth model diorama set.
BOX THREE (The 19" monitor box packed with BFG items): The BFG vessels didn't survive the trip very well. Many of the masts and evel hull extensions snapped or otherwise broke. The fleet is of a decent size, but badly in need of drydock!
BOX FOUR (The medium vertical box packed with plastic BFG ships): I admit that for what I traded for the fleets (A good value f money of items ordered from GW-Canada including two large Warmaster army sets and a number of paint pots... ), I'm a little disappointed. It seems like I got a poor value for my trade value, but this is probably balanced by enjoying being generous to a nice trader on the other end who game me a good deal on the Epic items.
BOX FIVE (The small box with a few models and lots of Epic & BFG publications): Cool! This one had every Epic and BFG magazine as well as all of the rulebooks and associated publication items for these games! Warp storm is impossible to get ahold of these days so that is quite a find.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
