I use Imperial ships in my Chaos fleet. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions on what limits should be and if they should count towards max amount of ships.
I was thinking they should be fairly rare, such as one cruiser for every four cruisers or possibly a quarter of the point can be used on them?
The same would be allowed for Imperials using Chaos, except that Imperials would't be able to use certain ships...

G'day there!
I too use a coupl eof Imperial cruisers in my chaos fleet, but only 2. I imagine they are fairly rare and I would only allow a few in the fleet. These then represent relatively recently traitoris crews bringing their ship to the srevice of chaos, or ships taken in boarding actions and taken into service.
To that end I use a total of 2 in a fleet of 10 cruisers and 2 battleships.
For chaos cruisers used in Imperial service, these would be relics that are somehow still working and so ultra rare. Shpis captured in battle would probably nopt be able to be purified and cleanesed sufficiently for use and would probably be impounded by the ]II[ for study and eventual destruction as heretical vessels likely to corrupt future crews

One or two seems fair enough, but try not to overdo it or pick ships for obviously power gaming reasons eg to get nova cannons.
Or try picking an Imperial fleet and simply declaring them traitors and renegades, then you can have Imperial vs Imperial battles. (This is an idea that some members of my gaming club were thinking about yesterday!)
regards...

There are two basic ways of adding Imperial ships to a Chaos fleet (and vice versa).
My favourite method is simply to use them as Chaos vessels, give an Imperial cruiser launch bays and lances, and call it a Devastation. This adds a bit of variety without causing any problems.
Or you could use them as captured/alternative ships. I would certainly use the normal fleet restrictions, but also restrict someone to not using anything other than Cruisers and escorts. And not too many.
Additionally, you could impose leadership penalties, to represent the Imperial crews using old (Chaos) technology, or Chaos crews not being used to the Imperial dials (the windscreen washers and indicators are always in the wrong place!).

I only use a Murder Class due to the fact that these where the mainstream ship before being replaced by the Lunar Class. These would be old ships kept in reserve which had never been tainted by Chaos. Obviously the Imperium wouldn't use tainted ships.
I was also thinking of using a Repulsive Grand Cruiser seeing as it says in the fluff that there are still some left in the reserve fleets. ?I was also planning on getting some Icooclast Destroyers seeing as they are turned out by nearly every ship yard...
As for using an Imperial ship in the Chaos fleet I was planning on using a Lunar Class since they are the most numerous. ?
Just to keep the "purists" (GW tournement players) happy, I was thinking that they wouldn't be counted towards getting heavy/battle cruisers & Battleships.

You have certainly been very careful to keep within the hints and statements made in the rulebook, I suspect that your fleet will be full of character!
I must admit I have always been tempted to field a Repulsive class myself (and I am an Imperial player) The model looks excellent (imho)
Although it may be a little hard to tie the various models togeter visually
Good luck!

The Repulsive is great- my favourite BFG model in fact- and it does say in the book that it is used in reserve Imperial fleets...
