Have kind of fallen in love with GWs new Zoat model for Blackstone fortress.

So was thinking about how cool an entire army of them would look. You think GW should/would make them into an army/faction?

Personally think it would be awesome with a new xenos faction in the 40k universe.

What would like to see miniature-, lore- and rule-wise?
Just curious about peoples ideas.

Can see there are others who have had this idea and made a change.org

Background-wise, they were just shock troops for the Tyranids, rather than being a force in their own right.

Yeah, Zoats are old ambassadors for the Tyranids from Advanced Space Crusade. They are language experts, and so attempted to negotiate ahead of the Tyranids advance for...... reasons. The old rules had them completing their charge action even if they were killed, as momentum kept them going like a rhino. They originally wielded fleshborers.

That's based on Zoats in Ian Watson's Space Marine novel. Before that, they were shock troops in the Rogue Trader rulebook.

As far as I remember, old lore mentioned them rebelling now and then, maybe they could have joined the Tau?

Also think I remember an alien race with a Zoat look, mentioned somewhere in the Horus HEresy series, allied to other xenos and non-imperial humans. So lore wise they could be a race for them self

I thought they were specifically made by the tyranids. Or maybe that was another version of semi-coherent make belief? I get confused sometimes by this ”fluff” orthodoxy:D

Ah yes. I had forgotten their RT appearance!
I guess that the Genestealer Cult essentially took over their role iin the Hive Fleet fluff.

Now... How do I get my Grabber-Slashers returned as a modern unit?

Never heard of the Grabber-slasher before, but they are cool!
Maybe the Zoats brought them along when they left the hive fleet? They could be a strong diverse unit, with different stats depending on what kind dna they have eaten.

There used to be a list of original race to Tyranid construct.....
Eldar - Zoanthrope
Marines - Hive Guard

I think Grabber-Slashers were Squig DNA. They kind of jumped forwards, and launched themselves at an enemy, grabbed their head in the large hand and swung the spike into the victims chest. Good times.....

The galaxy is a big place - I would say there is room for a 'counts as' Zoats equivalent.

Or - at some point the Zoats (or something similar) were absorbed by the Hive. You could represent them before that?

As a side note, one of the things I'm lest fond of with the more recent 40k lore is that almost every alien that you find in the galaxy is now related in some way to Tyranids. Catachan Deathworlds? Due to Tyranid spores. Genestealers? Advanced guard for Tyranids. That giant underwater Kraken that Russ fought when a young Primarch? Probably a Nid too! I believe there are others. IMO it's a real imagination-fail, it's overly defining the 40k universe and removing the mystery from what should be a massive, dark and unknowable place. And most importantly leave some space for hobbyists to define a bit of that mystery themselves.

The Tyranids are so effective at absorbing other species that they've actually started hoovering up the lore too! :)

True. But I like the idea of genestealer cults as independents, of sorts, acting as beacons for the hivefleet, desperately trying to get off world before the inevitable doom.
