I have finally worked out how I wanted to based my Necron army. It took a while as I wanted it to contrast the minis, not be over complicated, and have some chance of helping me get close or even win the painting award at the tournement.

Overall picture of a 3000 point Necron army
Image

Various elements of the army that show the base which is achieved by gluing black sand material onto the base, and then hand painting individual sand granuals with flourescent yellow and yellow/green paint from the model color range.

Still deciding on a final list for my tournament, but I have time to paint a Tomb Blades Maniple, a Triarch Maniple, and a Destroyer/Eques Maniple, as well as a Nightbringer unit and a Wraith unit.

Wow! Nice work. Now that is an impressive army. Very much looking forward to hearing how you fair in the tournament. Shoot me a PM if you want talk lists.

I am planning to build a series of tiles which I can use as both terrain pieces and as a display for my Necron army in the painting display portion of the next Tournament at the end of January.

I have started on a number of them, and still have to printout 8 rescaled Necron Gauss Turrets, a few Necron Epic scale Obelisks/ buildings, and a whole series of floor tiles and roads with Necron Glyphs on them.

Once I have glued all the buildings, etc onto the tiles, I plan to glue a number of Flourescent green crystals onto the tiles, and then base the tiles with black sand and HO scale dust free coal. Some of these will be painted with the same "model colour" flourescent green and green/yellow paint I used on the infantry bases.

Photos of what I have done so far below:

It will look really good once it is done. Everything painted, the green crystals, and the black sand.

After getting some advise from Atension on this site about my short list of armies I had worked out for CanCon, I decided I needed to paint a few more minis to fill the optons I needed, and perhaps a few more based on his advise for another list.

I will be painting another warrior Phalanx, a Flayed ones Maniple on top of what I have just painted this morning. Another warrior unit, this on with a Cryptek, a Wraith Unit, and both the Deceiver and the Nightbringer.

They just need basing, but I will do that after I get the 2 other formations painted. I will probably also paint the scenery tiles and base them next. after I get the last few things printed out.

I painted some Flayed ones (trolls under the bridge), and printed (3D PLA) some more terrain to finish off my display boards.

Another formation - Triarch Praetorians are being painted, which I can use individual units as Pariahs for the old NetEA list.

I will undercoat the board sections, and paint the buildings, then flock/base them.

I have finished painting the first 2 of the display tiles which are rescaled 3D prints of forgeworld 40K Necron Battle boards. These are enhanced by necron roads, obelisks, gauss turrets (old Necron type form long ago).

I have stuck to the Nihilakh Dynasty colour scheme. The only thing that needs to be done is basing with black sand and in some parts small areas of dust free coal to represent rough patches.

6 more display tiles to paint, and basing of the rest of the maniples and Phalanxes I painted for the 7 short listed armies I worked out for the tournament.

I think it might be a choice between the 2 following lists:

Scarab Conflict list 2980 pts
75 pts - tomb complex
28 pts - warrior phalanx - lord, 6 warrior, pariah
285 pts - warrior phalanx - lord, 6 warriors, pariah
285 pts - warrior phalanx - lord, 6 warriors, pariah
325 pts - eques maniple - lord, 3 destroyers, 3 heavy destroyers [bts]
260 pts - venator maniple - pariah, 6 flayed ones
275 pts - 3 monoliths
275 pts - 3 monoliths
275 pts - 3 monoliths
200 pts - pylon
200 pts - pylon
300 pts - ctan still to decide between deceiver or nightbringer

sautekh dynasty 3000 pts list

75 pts - tomb complex
immortal phalanx - 400 pts lord, cryptek, 8 immortals
325 pts - ghost phalanx - lord, cryptek, 6 warriors, 3 ghost arks
370 pts - warrior phalanx - overlord, cryptek, 7 warriors
325 pts - eques maniple - lord, 3 destroyers, 3 heavy destroyers
250 pts - 3 monoliths
250 pts - 3 monoliths
250 pts - 3 monoliths
200 pts - venator maniple - 6 flayed ones
175 pts - 2 night scythes
200 pts - pylon

Every unit from both lists are painted.
