My personal hell. This is what happens when no one brings deathstrikes.

Andy brought a 20 railhead army, I got a laugh out of that when he got to play Karl.

So it's been a bit, but I have some updates for the painting log here (and the blog). Took advantage of some actual sunlight to snap a few photos this morning!

For starters, I've expanded Legio Suturvora's arsenal a little. I'd initially managed to paint just what I needed for the tournament at Fall In; that's... expanded a bit now. So in true defense contractor fashion, here's the money shot with the full arsenal laid out in front of the titans ;)

Image

Why so many guns? Well, you didn't think I'd stop at just two Reavers, did you? More to come on that later...

I also managed to get a couple of vanity project pieces finished for my Iron Warriors over the past two months. A friend in the gaming group gave me some "stretched Rhino" conversion casts a while back as a gift, and I'd earmarked them for support vehicles eventually. Along with my Dreadclaws, courtesy of Vanguard's recovery vehicle components and GHQ's M104 Wolverine kit, I give you my Rhino ARVs & Rhino AVLBs:

Finally, I'm working on some new objective markers for my Chaos armies. So far, two of them are completed: a bigger, badder version of my Warp Breach Blitz marker, and a half-buried dormant Chaos Gate:

I have a monolithic chaos altar coming along as well, and I still need to finish up my Thunderbolts (blocked out the colors for Fall In, haven't really made progress since). The new objectives were a fun palate cleanser after all the tanks and guns, even if the color schemes (METALLICS ALL THE THINGS!) didn't really change much.

Some additional photos, comments, and plans for 2019 painting are over on my blog too (see sig).

Cheers folks!

Thanks guys!

Yeah, those cranes were a godsend. GHQ’s M88 & M578 components felt out of scale and really were meant for 1/285 tanks rather than ‘roided-up Rhinos.

And yup, recovery vehicles and bridge layers :)

I figure, if any of the traitor legions would still be using combat engineers in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, it would be the Iron Warriors.

Sure, you might be able to airlift your way over every blown bridge, ravine or moat you come across, but that assumes you have a permissive air environment and still burns some serious fuel if you’re bringing as much armor as I do. Bridge layers are a cheap and fast solution ;)

Now, with these guys done I can go back to working on my walking siege tower...

Regarding those cranes, any plans for the hulls and other bits from that kit?

I wound up building them as mini-Dracosans, and then dropped them into storage for now. They might wind up worked into an objective marker or terrain piece/diorama at some point, my IG just hasn't made it out of their packs/off their sprues yet.

And here's new objective #3! Apologies for the less-than-stellar lighting; it's going to be overcast all week and black isn't the most photogenic of colors.

Image

The last known location of the Tallarn Institute of Technology anthropology department's graduate summer fieldwork expedition...

Tents are from GHQ, ladders are from Plastruct's N-Scale line, and the altar is a hero base from GW's AoS line.

Image

My first real attempt at marble, and I probably need to thin down the veins a little bit more, but this should get me through to Cold Wars.

My goal was to sketch a bit of a narrative between this objective, the half-buried Chaos Gate, and the Warp Rift markers. Hopefully I pulled it off!

Edit: Sneaky update; the sun came out this AM, so I managed to snag some better photos ;)

Time for another update!

I've been quiet for a few months, but that's because there's about two dozen Battletech battlemechs, five more titans, 8 thunderbolt proxies, and three formations of Skitarii and Cybernetica support primed and awaiting paint, now. Oh yeah, and this guy:

Image

So yeah, I've been busy preparing for warm enough weather to safely prime again. Now if it would only stop raining long enough for me to hit the Warlord... He's ready to go, broken down into painting sub-assemblies, and all four hard-points are magnetized (not that I trust the arms to hold, mind you - those might wind up getting permanently attached...).

My greenstuff & plasticard skills aren't quite up to par, so I'm relying on brass etch and bitz box components, along with my paint scheme. I wanted to try to add some spikes to the armor plate corners like the Chaos Reaver has (post-photo), but I just couldn't get things consistent enough. Ah well. Pretty sure folks will understand what I'm getting at here with Suturvora's latest reinforcement. If I can get this guy painted in time for June, I'll start work on assembling the Banelord and Siegelord. Really looking forward to adding some demonic corruption to the former and scratch-building a corvus assault pod for the latter!

As part of this wave of reinforcements, I'm adding a close combat Reaver (power fist is going to be a permanent attachment, given the weight and dynamism), as well as a handful of new weapon systems.

So here's "Princeps Morgan" - or at least his leg assembly:

Image

Yup - he's got a little "Captain" in him :) I sawed and sanded down the classic land raider - it's going to be smashed down into the ground and buckling from the weight of the Reaver, the desert sands piling up around it. Oh yeah, and one other bit to note - I've decided that I'm going to flag Veteran Princeps and Legate upgrades by adding magnetized tech priests to my titans' bases where relevant. I'll be using the Cybershadows Command Node pack for that. I figure it's the fairest way to be clear on exactly which Warhound is the one you want to kill out of the pack, stuff like that ;) You can see the first example in this Reaver's photo. It's going to be a little more interesting retrofitting my other two Reavers and four Warhounds, but should be a fun challenge. Not messing with that until I'm ready to paint bases on the new stuff though.

Along with the new Reaver, here's a shot of some of the weapons I'm adding to their overall arsenal:

Image

I'm particularly proud of my Laser Burner conversion (currently mounted in the dorsal socket) - a combination of a pair of lascutters from another 6mm kit, combined with a dorsal turbolaser. I might do something similar for my AT18 stuff, eventually, using Horus Heresy Breacher Squad lascutters. Nothing like industrial cutting tools for a good bear hug, huh?

While I was at it, I wanted an arm-mounted melta cannon for my Suturvora Reavers too - but I wanted it to match the chaos doomburner style, so this little project kicked off as well:

Image

From left to right, that's a volcano cannon for scale comparison, a "loyalist" melta cannon, the dorsal doomburner, and then the finished product - and yes, that sucker's pinned. I only trust superglue so far on its own. That said, I can now run a Reaver with a power fist, melta cannon, and laser burner - midfield objective campers beware!

So yeah, I have about a week and a half before I go on vacation and then transition straight into a customer audit at work (travel required), but after that I'll have another four weeks ahead of NEAT's tentative date. I give myself reasonable odds of completing the Reaver, the Warlord, and at least two of the new Warhounds before the next tournament. Wish me luck!

As always, juiciest highlights here & more detail photos on my blog :)
