This is starting to look more controlled and focused over your quick initial iterations.

That would be to take the restrictions too far in another direction, and Dark Angels isn't always in every battle hunting the Fallen after all.
In which situations players can just field them as codex maybe? When people wanna run DA like regular marine but dark green, codex is fine and they can paint their terminators white. The value of your list will be where it steps away from that.
Sure deathwing is iconic, but it's also viable as a codex list (taking just terminators or terminators+thawks does work in codex, you'll just annoy your opponents after the novelty wears off). And Marines in dark green armour, that's just codex.
Fully agree with you that a specific DA list will never please everybody. They have so much fluff and different ways of operating (great terminators, and great fast attack, and great tanks) that any list that satisfies all areas for the fluff-fans, breaks the way most EA lists are made (becomes kitchen skink, marines but +extra toys that are extra good). I think focusing on theme and accepting that for more generic builds there's nothing wrong with running DA and codex (when the DA in question are operating in a codex-like manner) is the only way to avoid that.
Unrelated to all this theme stuff, but those are
very cheap wirlwinds?
