Beginning a Steel Legion army project, first time doing stuff in 6mm. First thing done is this Lightning flight, unfortunately all I have is my phone camera. Not super thrilled with how the canopy came out but it'll do while there's yet more that needs paint. I'd love some tips on photographing minis, preferably with only a cell camera.

I love the checkers and the splash of color on the wingtips! Also, how'd you stick the rod into the base? I need to do some of those but not sure what the best way is.

For taking pictures you just need more light. Overhead light and also a lamp at about the same height as the minis a couple of feet away (to your side, so the angle between you, the mini, and that lamp is 45 degrees). You should use a white sheet of paper as a reflector to bounce some more light at the minis to brighten any shadows. The smaller the camera sensor, the more light it needs. It's hard to have too much.

The background should be a medium gray. That way it won't mess with the white balance and the colors will look right, and a light background will result in a darker photo of the minis (and vice versa).

With cell phones you also have to remember to clean the lens.

Very well done, these are very nice little minis and you did them justice.

Nice start on the force, the base colour is a good match with the army colour also , i like the mud/sandy soil effect look ;)

Some folks use a lighting box, I have never used a cell phone camera but cant see why the modern ones these days would not take a good picture as the pixcel levels they have now is just plane crazy :-\

Painted up some vanguard stormies. Went with an =I= scheme so I wouldn't have to paint more later. I added the officer and commissar for a command imagining that they were there to coordinate between the inquisition forces on loan and the main SL command. After all if the planet is going to be destroyed the ordos wouldn't begrudge a few men, right? First 6mm infantry I ever painted, certainly a different experience to paint something so small.

Command tank for my russes. To make the profile a bit different I left off the sponsons and gave the tank good-job skulls, and an ace from the Vanguard trenchcoat infantry specialist sprue. The crude diagram is to explain how I made those flying stands, red is a bent up paperclip, green is greenstuff and glue.

Very cool, Having chaps in turrets with open hatches is always great to see and adds so much to the tnaks visually ;)

Really nice! How did you make the hatch?

Not sure how sorrow and extintction makes his, but normally if a hatch is already there i will cut it off and drill a hole where it was and then glue the minature torso in, and glue that hatch back on, if its a model with no hatch already i will use a 6mm plastic epic base and cop a flat bit on one side which is the bit to glue down, also make a hole for the minature

"Good-Job Skulls" has been added to the local gaming vernacular.
