Been meaning all day to wander by and post this
http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2017/01/ ... mdark.html
http://www.peta.org.uk/wp-content/uploa ... Letter.pdf

PETA wrote:
From the mighty Leman Russ and Horus Lupercal to Chaos Warriors and the Sisters of Silence, Warhammer features an abundance of characters who wear what appear to be animal pelts, which just doesn’t add up”, the group says in the letter. “These battle-hardened warriors are known for their martial prowess – but wearing the skins of dead animals doesn’t take any skill.”

Animals killed for their fur are typically kept in tiny, filthy wire cages before being electrocuted, drowned, or even skinned alive. Or they may be trapped in the wild by horrific bone-crushing steel-jaw traps – which often leave them languishing for days before they eventually die of hunger, thirst, or blood loss.

And even though Warhammer characters are fictional, PETA (whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”) notes in the letter that “draping them in what looks to be a replica of a dead animal sends the message that wearing fur is acceptable – when, in fact, it has no more place in 2017 than it would in the year 40,000”.

;D

My friends and I had a small chuckle over PETA's efforts: there was some disbelief about whether it was even real! Alas, PETA has kind of missed the point of the 40K universe: it shows you that people and animals get used as clothing if you foolishly vote for Ghazkull! (I would choose an Australian example but I imagined most here wouldn't know the details to appreciate it) ;)

GW should consider their response carefully. As the right reply would get a lot of people like me to buy their first mini's from GW for a very long time.

I'm thinking something really short, along the lines of:

Dear PETA,

You're a pack of gosh darned idiots.

Regards,

K. Roundtree

Haha, they're offended on the behalf of furry animals world wide!

Dear PETA,
Although it would be impossible to remove animal pelts and cloaks from out entire range, as a gesture of good will we have decided that henceforth ourg range of Dark Eldar will no longer feature any animal skins, pelts or cloaks. Instead these characters will exclusively adorn their bodies with the skulls and finger bones of vegans, and their cloaks will be made exclusively from gluten free human skin.

Yours sincerely,
Games Workshop

I have some respect for a number of PETA's positions, but this was mostly amusing. It's not like wargamers are a big market for fur coats. Not to mention, Fenrisian wolves might actually be wulfenized Astartes...

On the other hand, they've managed to spread their message pretty well by doing this. It was probably a good use of their time.
