I'm thinking of dropping sentinals (100 points) & using the points to bulk out the HQ Mech Inf with extra Chimeras

army list -

http://traitor-legion.appspot.com/chooser.html?list=IG_steelLegion_NETEA&force=Incompertus~512~35x1~32x1~26x2~514~35x1~32x1~26x3~514~35x1~32x1~26x3~502~41x1~502~41x1~509~519~519~520

Thoughts & comments appreciated

Started using them over Manticores for 2 reasons:

Due to SR they normally would get taken out first, Basilisks 5+ opposed to 6+ armoursave
Dont like their Slow firing rule

worked out quite well for me

Pretty sure extra chimeras can only be taken to transport infantry. You can't just take empty ones.
My steel legion PDF might be a bit old, but I suspect that hasn't changed.

Yeah as far as I know (off the top of my head) the only way you could get 2 extra Chimeras into your HQ for 100 points is 2 stands of Ogryns and 2 Chimeras for 100 points. It's not something I've tried before as I would normally lean towards the Sentinels because I'm usually struggling for activations. In 4000 points it's definitely something I've considered although usually for my BTS to deter Air Assault

I did have that niggling thought in my mind that you cant take more transports than units - which is a shame imho. Will investigate more, but wonder why the option to keep adding them is a viable option in the app.

Do you know the force your opponent will be fielding? Not the exact list as such, just the race?

my thinking is on this ; 25 points for a chimera which adds an autocanon, bolter 5+ save and extra bm resiliense, by removing say sentinels I can get 3 griffons plus 2 chimera for a mech inf coy. Issue is on traitor app once you purchase an upgrade it greys out, not so with the purchase of transport, which in theory means i could buy 10 extra for the mech coy for 250 point making it harder to break. I found the 1.7.5 rule but doesnt clarify if I can buy the chimeras in excess of the stands it can transport

Check the army list for confirmation . Uprades marked with * when chosen allows the option to take chimeras and only to a maximum of 1 per unit. Griffons are not marked with an * so do not allow chimeras to be chosen as upgrades.

from te netEA list
Quote:
* These upgrades may add up to one Chimera per each of their units for +25 points each. All infantry units in the formation must be transported in Chimera if any are taken but you may not take more than one Chimera per unit in the formation.
