I dont think the shareholders will just sit back and accept a company like GW folding. Before that theoretical end is reached I believe we would at least see some restructuring of the company and/or it's policies. GW will be around for years to come.

Im surprised this conversation is still going on - in the last year they seem to have gone to great lengths to undo many of the poor choices of the last 5/10 years : Many new innovative releases across multiple genres, minimal price increases and many highly discounted bundles, reaching out to fans with events, tournament support facebook pages, faqs...

They are not a small independent craft company doing niche releases anymore - they haven't been for 20-25 odd years. But for a big behemoth they are being surprisingly agile again.

That said, i no longer buy new gw stuff, but then it hasn't been aimed at me for a long time. Im getting older and they are still going for the age range i was as a teenager. I buy from the people who are producing great, new, mature gaming content but are thankful gw gave us several decades of great stuff ( and are continuing to get the next generation interested in wargaming.)

My only contribution to this is to facetiously paraphrase two good quotes:
1 - 'You don't hate ...[GW] you hate capitalism' Slavoj Zizek
2 - 'You don't miss how things were in the old days, you miss your youth.' Billy Connelly

People say the company cant fail because of the share holders. But if you look on the web now, the share holders are more than a little concerened about questions that they asked the GW chairman at the meetings and he avoided some of them. A company can fold with share holders in place, they can be either in or out when it happens. If they are not getting a good return on investment they will leave and they are doing as the company is stagnent at the moment its pre tax profit was a joke for a large company. When all the share holders bolt from the stable, means no more investment money.

what could GW do to turn around these, they cant and many gamers have even told shareholders that he company is in denial and has been for a long time. Every game system they now do has a very good quality competitor that has closed the gap and given the customers what they want. Even the specialist games are all covered now by companys that actually enjoy and game with the products they sell.

Most people now class GW as a company for supplying minatures to collectors rather than gamers, but the problem is nowdays other companys make fantastic looking minatures also and they cost less.

I am still going with GW is going by the end of the year :-\

$3.50 in US 1988 prices, corrected for inflation: $7.05
http://inflationdata.com/Inflation/Infl ... ulator.asp

So price increase has been exactly what you'd expect and no more expensive in real terms now than it was then.

But while we're reminiscing for 1988 prices, remember when penny sweets cost a penny?

Now you are just being obtuse.

Find me a $7 blister on GW or a single fig for $2.33?

I have been in the sales side of the IT industry for over 20 years. I get economics.

But very early in my working career I was taught one thing that has made my career very fruitful:

"Perception is reality"

I perceive that GW has priced me out of the market.

I perceive that I can drop $150 on BaC one time without my wife batting an eye, but regular $30-40 purchases are going to cause issues.

I perceive that as a potential customer GW does not value me.

I act accordingly. GE has done little to convince me otherwise.

<edited because no need to offend>

God I hate fanbois.

Basically what is happening in this thread (and happens in most of these threads) is that my soup was served cold with a fly in it.

You are a random other customer in the establishment telling me that I have no idea what temperature my soup should be served at and that I should embrace the restaurant's additional ingredient because it is free protein.

go on your way, I have no further business with you.

Unfortunately the inflation in my hobby budget has not managed to keep pace with the rate of inflation in GW prices.

The best indicator for me is that She Who Must Be Obeyed is quite pleased that I've been reducing my hobby spending without reducing my model income since getting my toy soldiers from other places :)

Price is relative to each customer. People obviously still pay what GW charge and that's between them and their bank balance but almost my entire gaming group has stopped buying GW products due to price and perceived shoddy rules (and that was before WFB 8th Ed and the current "pay to win" 40k)

I think I misunderstood... I thought you were saying that there was some item you used to buy for $3.50 and now it costs $7 - which would be purely a typical cost-based price increase (rather than setting prices according to what people are prepared to pay which is what any well-run large company would do).

There was no need to be an utter cretin about it. I'm not a "fanboi", I just take an interest in GW's financials. You are welcome to your opinion and to hate GW for feeling priced out, and I can have mine. Looks like you need a lesson on how to behave when communicating with people. It's not even your thread!

The fly-in-my-soup example is a bad one; GW's always been good about replacing flawed products.

I stopped buying 28mm GW minis when human-sized characters hit $20. That was a psychological threshold for me, and apparently a lot of them are $30 now. That's just nuts. I was also pretty annoyed with some kits going up in price by 25%+ in just two price increases, one year apart - during the worst years of the recession, no less.

But GW has appeared to make some good moves under the new CEO. 40k looks like an absolute mess right now so at least there's no temptation there, but I might end up buying some of these standalone boxed games. Honestly, FW's Horus Heresy line is pretty tempting too. I'm already buying some of the Black Library novels.

worth keeping in mind you can buy the boards+rules+cards etc cheaply on ebay. Lots of people buy the boxes to re-sell miniatures on ebay, the boards and rules are cheap leftovers. Betrayal at Calth is only £5–10 on ebay that way, just use your own marines or epic stand :spin

GWs answer to try and up the funds for the mid term financials

I give you Imperial Knights Renegade ! on pre order ;D Oh i know lets do a sort of titanicus remake, but we will not re scale anything and just push our excisting stock in a new way, even more get some people to pay more and we can get rid of all that unsold 40k scenery that has been cluttering up the place.

Not sure what the game system will play like, but please who the hell is telling the company to make these decisons. Next up will be a rule or boxed set called Imperial space marine renegade, that is epic space marine but in 28mm scale :{[]

I have three words CRASH AND BURN ;D

GW a company that used to be a thoroughbred in the gaming world regarding imagination, and now its a Donkey in the market place EEEEEEOOORRRRRRRRRRR ! ;D
